Hey guys,

 

Man, it’s been a while since I’ve used this site, but it looks like I need some help again. I currently have a i7 7700K and ASUS Maximus IX Formula motherboard, and I’m planning on upgrading to an i9 9900K and Maximus XI Code very soon. I’m wondering if all I need to do is just take out my current motherboard and CPU and install the new ones? Will my M.2 (with Windows on it) work perfectly fine when I install it on my new motherboard? Is there any software I should uninstall/install?

Ah ok. So after I’ve completed the steps in settings before I remove my CPU and motherboard, and then after I install my new CPU and motherboard, it should just automatically ask for my Activation Key and then I’m done?

You don't need to use the key, you just log in with the same microsoft account and it will activate.

Yes it will, it has for me at least when going from the i7 6700 to the i7 8700 I just booted from it and on the first time Windows adjusted what was there to adjust and that was it for me.

 

Absolutely no need to reinstall windows, at least I never had to.

Windows 10 will not require reinstall. First boot will install appropriate drivers and make adjustments.

I think this is more of an issue if you're switching from Intel to Ryzen, for example.

 

I've done it before and not had issues either.

Even then it's a non-issue for most of the time, my brother also went from a Ryzen 7 1800X to the i9 9900K and no reinstall of the OS was required, Windows 10 is very reliable at adjusting itself.

 

Reinstalling OS on these scenarios is really something of the past.
