(Help) 2 SSDs in RAID 0 without formatting

So, right now i have 2 drives, the first is an Intel 60GB SSD (only used for the OS), and a 1TB HDD

 

since the Intel SSD barely has any space for Windows, im planning to get a 240GB SSD, to replace my old 60GB one

 

so my question is, can i add the 240GB SSD and use RAID 0 to get 300GBs total for the OS? i understand the risks, but only having only my OS in the SSDs, i dont worry about it, but i dont know i you can just add more space without formatting the drives first or something alike

RAID 0 (as far as I know) can only stripe to the lowest size. So you would get 60GB x 2 = 120GB of RAID 0.

While it is true that RAID 0 is at greater risk for failure, it is because it has no redundancy, not because it is striped. All RAID levels are striped.

You do have a couple of options that might work for you.

1. Extend the disks, yucky I know, but it does work.  The drives aren't striped, basically what happens is the OS will see them both as one disk in software, it fills one up then fills up the other one.  Similar to RAID if you lose one you will be in trouble, although the extent of your trouble will vary.

2.  If you have a particular folder (steam library, videos, etc) that takes up all your space, you can mount the larger disk in that folder, so instead of mounting your drive as a letter, you can mount it in a directory.  You do need to copy your data to it first!  The advantage of this is that both function independently, if you lose one, the other will remain usable.

Neither option is wonderful, but they both allow you to mix disks and there is no RAID involved.
