I want to upgrade my cpu to a i5 9400f but i dont know if my motherboard supports 9th gen.

Gigabyte has them listed as compatible with both 8'th/9'th gen, though this may (may = almost certainly) require a BIOS update to be completely true.

Appears as though BIOS F4 and above are 9000 series compatible.

if you have the newest available, then you have full support for 9th gen CPUs.
