RAM: 2x4 with 1x8 it works well?

I have on my PC, 8gb (2x4) DDR4-2400MHz (Dual Channel), and  now i want to upgrade to 16gb.

If i buy another 8gb but this time --> (1x8), will it work fine?

NOTE: All RAM sticks are DDR4-2400MHz.

It should just be a lopsided dual channel.

Ideally no: the "dual channel" part of DDR means that it needs sticks to be in pairs (hence, dual) to enable full performance. How important is RAM speeds? Varies a lot, we'd need to go into the rest of your rig stats and use cases but if you can help it at all, get another 2x4 instead: As long as you keep the second pair of sticks on their own channel it should be better (Not ideal, but better) than 2x4 + 1x8

This is talking DIMMS of course, I know SO-DIMMS are a whole different story since laptops are more limited in the available SO-DIMM slots and such but for a desktop pick DDR on pairs if you can help it.

put the two 4gb sticks on one channel and the 8gb stick on it's own channel

something like this(X means empty slot)

CPU ---- 4GB 4GB 8GB X

or

CPU ---- 8GB X 4GB 4GB

If you have to do it this is the best way to install, but if you can but another 2x4gb that's even better.

But yes: check the motherboard manual to make sure you install the current pair on the same channel

Not advisable.

At best dualchannel will run in compatibility mode. But even then its just not worth it. Get a another set of 2 sticks.

not necessarily, 3000mhz memory in certain countries are like heaps more expensive. tridentz rgb 3000 vs tridentz 2400 is like 15usd difference in singapore, lpx 2400 vs 3000 is $20usd difference. could probably be because we're still paying $90 for a 2x8gb kit of 2400mhz corsair vengeance lpx though

Ddr4 is cheap. Just buy a 8x2 or better yet 16x2 kit imo.  Unbalanced ram causes nothing but headaches if it even works. Cheers.
