Toto, I don't think we're in China anymore - US companies adopting social credit score system

rcmaehl

They'll have fun with my credit scores... I don't believe in credit, I have no social media presence, I actively block any and all tracking and scripts in my browser (along with ads, cookies and everything else that's not required to view a piece of text) and what limited 'social' stuff I engage with is done through accounts that contain no personal information at all.... and ALL of my internet traffic is routed through a VPN to further obfuscate attempts to identify me.

It does mean that on the very rare occasion I see an add on some random website... it's never relevant to anything I am actually interested in... and facebook and google trackers are completely blocked from ALL websites.

Your credit goes bad when you get a mortgage you can't actually afford and then default on the loan.

Over here it's simple.  If you need a loan, you go to your bank.  The bank then looks at your income over the last year or so, your monthly expenses (rent, mortgage payments, payments for other loans, monthly bills, shopping etc) and then determines if you still have enough left to pay off whatever loan you are asking for.

If those numbers indicate that you can comfortably pay it off, they'll grant you the loan.  If you can't, you don't get the loan.  No ifs, no buts, no need to worry about artificially building up scores and all that nonsense.

-----

As for a social credit score, oh hell no!  I'll be flagged as suspicious right away, soon thereafter they'll start wondering if I actually exist.

Yay... What an awful fucking idea if you want a fair system. Great for controlling your people though, like really fucking effective to lock them out unless they act acording to what you want.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

This was my first thought when I read the title. Lets just say this is the future I don't fucking want to live in. We already have this pretentious social media nonsense where everyone is living perfect life and happy and have everything, but are really living miserable lives outside of social networks.

That article sounds more like an opinion piece, rather than confirm facts, where the US has adopted AI to determine who is qualified for what, based on their social media profiles.

There is a very slim and slightly amusing upside,  If a company was socially responsible they could prevent anti vaxxers from getting health insurance, home loans etc.   This at the very least would curb that kind of irresponsible social behavior.

Or on the flip side, companies that are anti vaxx could prevent pro vaxxers service

Edit: unless the social credit manager is aligned a particular way across the board it will cause conflicts between companies about what should raise and what should lower the score

And so, we begin to see the collapse of the failed experiment that is a debt based economy.

I give zero shits about credit. I avoid debt like the plague. I am ashamed of what little debt I owe because I got a student loan. I regret that. I was not as informed as I should have been, that IT degrees basically mean fuck all without certificates.

I have never understood this. If everyone gets vaccinated but them then why does it matter? Wouldn't the only people they would put at risk is those who dont get vaccinated? Anyways I think it would be stupid to base credit based on ones beliefs. That is a very dangerous road to go down.

Internet...

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

You do realize that now it's just a matter of time before a bunch of men flood your inbox with requests to help prolong their life, right?

Unfortunately it's not that easy.  Some people can't be vaccinated (due to issues with their immune system, for example).  For those people herd immunity is very important.

If everybody for example is vaccinated against measles, people who can't be vaccinated don't have to worry about getting measles because they simply never come into contact with the virus.  However if they run into an anti-vaxxer at the wrong time (sticking with measles: carriers can be contagious up to 5 days before the rash actually starts), that could basically end their life.

Ferrari (or other manufacturers) just expect you to own a lot of their cars already. Any of the Limited Ferraris or the Lambos just have different "standing" requirements. Those are more like really expensive social clubs, however. What Ford has been up to is more of an anti-flipper approach while also getting "free" marketing out of people. They've turned getting the new GT into a luxury item on its own. (Frankly, they've understood, properly, the concept of a Halo Product in the current era.)

Using non-celebrity Social Media as a check on your ability to get a credit card is a far different event. It also has legal consequences.

Ferrari does actually do similar. For their special cars and more exclusive top end models you need to have an existing purchase history and own a certain amount of cars currently etc. They have even in the past gone to the extent of requiring an interview to confirm you can be put on the buyers list. Ferrari, special company...

I know this is not going to be a popular opinion but I think that it's not their problem. If you have a weak immune system any illness could end your life and that's not really anyone's fault it's just a harsh fact of life. The chances that someone who has that type of issue comes into contact with someone who isn't vaccinated and just so happens to have that illness is not big enough to warrant limiting other people's freedom. People get sick and die it's just a thing that happens and it really isn't anyone's fault.
