Alleged GeForce RTX Turing "SUPER" Refresh Specs Leaked (Update 2)

The most important thing will be the pricing changes.

In terms of engineering, architecture and raw performance Turing was good.

The problem was that it did not move price/performance forward in the way that previous GPU generations did because of how Nvidia priced it.

The important thing is, can you flash a Super BIOS into a standard model to unlock all cores?

Specs: Motherboard: Asus X470-PLUS TUF gaming (Yes I know it's poor but I wasn't informed) RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE® LPX DDR4 3200Mhz CL16-18-18-36 2x8GB

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X          Case: Antec P8     PSU: Corsair RM850x                        Cooler: Antec K240 with two Noctura Industrial PPC 3000 PWM

Drives: Samsung 970 EVO plus 250GB, Micron 1100 2TB, Seagate ST4000DM000/1F2168 GPU: EVGA RTX 2080 ti Black edition

What I'm saying is why are the chip designation for the 2080 vs 2070 Super the same?

TU104-401 for both, whilst other chips that differ in CUDA count (lets say 1050 vs 1050 ti) use different designations (GP107-300-A1 vs GP107-400-A1

Probably because this information is wrong and the RTX 2070 uses TU104-310, or the like. Leaks, often wrong.

I am going to lose the will to live if they give us an RTX 2060 Super, SURELY NOT. That would arguably be on par with the RTX 2070. And then we've got rumors of a 2070ti, AND a 2070 super. WHAT? What on earth are Nvidia playing at? They've done some bad stuff over the years but this is just crazy.

A 2060, a 2060 SUPER, a 2070 (Which performs the same as a 2060 Super), a 2070 SUPER and a 2070ti which performs the same as a 2070 Super. And then we've even got rumors of a 2050ti which will end up costing way more than the rx 570 while maybe just about outperforming it. God help us...can you not Nvidia? Calm down with the cards. Too many.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard since GTX 1600 model names. So much drama and a fucking teaser for 3 new cards with a dumb name. LMAO.

You'll both be waiting a long time then.

If doing it in software was remotely reasonable we would have had ray tracing in a significant number of games years ago.

Short of AMD suddenly releasing an entirely unexpected room temperature quantum computing based architecture, (yeah where way outside of reasonable here), you aren't getting the kind of performance uplift needed to do it in a broad fashion at solid framerates. Even the 16xx series aren't even within shouting distance, and whilst they may not have the sheer non-RT/Tensor grunt of the high end Turing cards they're also not far enough behind them either for it to make the kind of difference people are thinking.

There may come a time when we can avoid dedicated hardware, but it isn't happening soon.

I'm very curious to see how pricing shakes out. A "Super" GPU that's just more expensive isn't all that appealing to me.

Don't be ridiculous.

Spoiler

They'll milk it for at least two more generations because "the hardware means it's better" before they adopt the open standard and try to look like the good guys.

DXR and Vulkan RT are already open standards.. RTX is literally just a brand name for Nvidia's hardware RT accelerator. There's nothing stopping AMD from making their own version of a hardware RT accelerator for Radeon GPUs.

The most important thing will be the pricing changes.

NVIDIA Super is a Refreshed GeForce RTX Turing with new pricing, 2060 ($249), 2070 ($399), 2080 ($599):

A new a rumor surrounding the NVIDIA Super Teaser Trailer that appeared a few days ago surfaced, the rumor suggests that NVIDIA will release new (refreshed) RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080 graphics cards, and that they will cost $249, $399 and $599 respectively. Before we continue, it's all speculation up-to this okay?

Word right now is that NVIDIA will be releasing alternatives for the RTX 2060, RTX 2070 and RTX 2080. The cards would get faster GDDR6 memory, but also higher clock rates due to binning the GPUs. Naturally, when things get a notch faster you expect them to be priced higher, now another rumor contradicts that claim as Nvidia would be planning to undercut the price by $100. If you tally things up then in chronological order the MSRP would be $249, $399 and $599 respectively.

A $399 price would at the very least bring the 2070 SUPER in the NAVI playing field pricing and likely performance wise.

This would obviously require price cuts on other cards (1660 Ti, 1660, 1650), unless this rumor about pricing is false.

Waffles is right about one thing,  NVIDIA pushed higher grade hardware solution first with G-Sync.  It appears they are doing it again with RTX.  So the same choice is there for consumers if they want. They can get it now and enjoy the benefits or wait a few years for AMD to release something that is a suitable alternative.

2060 at 249 is a pretty attractive price, considering it could compete with the Vega 56 which cost a lot more.

GeForce RTX 20 SUPER: Announcement next week, to launch mid-July.

NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-2080-SUPER-1.jpg.39c23c26cbf26d24c59ee4caafd14b3a.jpg

Our sources have also referred to next week as a possible announcement of the new series. What’s important, however, the GeForce RTX 20 Super series will not launch till mid-July. NVIDIA has only just started talking to AIBs about the new series, and the time for a Turing refresh preparation is obviously still required. We do not expect significant changes to existing custom designs, as all SUPER SKUs will use existing GPUs (just different variants)

We have also confirmed the GPU variants that will launch with SUPER series. The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER will feature Turing TU104-450 GPU. This alone points towards 8GB GDDR6 memory, which for this very SKU will be faster (16 Gbps vs 14 Gbps) than the rest of the RTX stack. At this point, there is no doubt that this model will have all CUDA cores enabled (3072 to be exact). Meanwhile, the RTX 2070, which was used by AMD during Radeon RX 5700 XT presentation, will receive a faster variant with an additional 256 CUDA cores. This card will be powered by TU104-410 GPU. The RTX 2060 Super will basically be a cut-down version of RTX 2070 non-Super, featuring TU106-410 GPU with full 256-bit memory bus. This means 8GB GDDR6 memory, which is a 2GB more than RTX 2060 non-Super.

To give credit where it’s due, Igor Wallossek from Tom’s Hardware Germany was the first to report the correct variants:

In all honesty, if you want RTX thing, you need to aim for top tier card to really experience it well. But that's what, $1200 purchase? If you're looking lower, RTX should really be rather irrelevant thing as RTX 2060 is barely keeping playable framerate at even 1080p in BF V which is not that taxing with ray tracing.

It's a weird time. Ray tracing is finally becoming relevant with Doom Eternal and Cyberpunk 2077 allegedly having it and being games I'm interested in, but then again, "fake" graphics are so damn good these days does it ultimately really matters?

What sucks more is that I already have such high end card that I can't really try out anything without downgrading. I'd really like to try RX5700 XT coz it just sounds exciting having all new architecture and tiny but for me cool visual additions that don't nerf performance at all. Then again NVIDIA doesn't really have anything either. RTX 2080Ti just isn't worth the price premium for tiny benefit I'd get from it compared to GTX 1080Ti that I have now. However, when RX 7700 XT and RTX 4080 hit the market, I think that's where it'll for the first time make sense to look for replacement since they'll finally go past current performance levels significantly enough. And I can't wait to see how RDNA will evolve then. Hopefully in a positive way. And RTX should become an established enough thing to maybe play a bigger role than it does now.

Sounds like a pretty lame refresh, hopefully it comes with a price cut too.

It serves it's purpose as a refresh.

Because the launch day reviews of Navi will show the AMD RX 5700xt slightly beating or tieing the RTX 2070 for a bit cheaper, and the RX 5700 beating the RTX 2060.

So by providing 10% faster super parts shortly after, Nvidia is able to introduce models that they can keep selling at the same price points, while slightly cutting the prices of the existing models.

I'd be more thrilled if these "Super" parts had some trick that makes RTX part 50% faster because they found some way to speed it up somehow. Then I'd be "Super" interested. If it's just a small general performance bump, it's quite "meh"...

In my opinion the general rulle when thinking about upgrading your graphics card is... never buy anything that isn't at least 2-3 generations on from what you already own. There are very few exceptions to this unless you have a low tier card, or when a company takes 3-4yrs between generations.

So if you've  got a 1080 series card right now.... it's pretty pointless upgrading unless you're one of those people who absolutely have to have the latest and greatest, if you buy into all of the hype and are happy to pay a premium for a product that you can only use on 3 games... and another 3 next year. The rational and logical choice is to wait until at least the 30 series cards before upgrading.

As for those with AMD cards (myself included)... we've not really seen a new GPU from AMD for over 3yrs... just refreshes of the same stuff to improve performance by tiny amounts. (RX480, 2016, RX580, 2017, RX590, 2018) So Navi based cards are worth considering.

If the rumours of the 'super' series are correct... then this is nothing more than a minor refresh and a tiny increase in performance at yet another premium price. It would be like buying a 2080 and then spending even more to get a 2080ti... Not worth wasting money on... Not that it will stop some from going 'ooooh, shiny, new, must have'.

If the super series rumours are true and the prices of say the 2070 drop in price significantly... and by that I mean to seriously undercut the 5700XT... It's a good thing for consumer choice. But this is nvidia we're talking about... so they'll continue to charge a premium for something that offers less value for money over AMD's offering.

AMD are doing so well in the CPU market that I think they can afford to take a slim profit margin on the GPU's to increase market share

But we'll have to wait and see... I'm waiting for real world figures on Navi cards before considering an upgrade... and will now factor in any price cuts nvidia may bring to the table and see if/how they affect AMD pricing... then I'll make my purchase. My current card is fine for a while longer.
