All of the parts for stage 1 watercooling have arrived, so I started to drill the “case”

Passthrough fittings are installed

After that I assemble the gpu, bykski waterblock does not want too cool the chokes on vega’s vrm, I tried 0.5 mm thermal pads, but it was a bit too thick so I applied some thermal paste on them.

the next challenge was to install the waterblock on the motherboard. It is for z270/370i board, but if where is a will there is a way) the bolts were a bit stuck so I ended up drilling one of them out

And here is a “final“ assembly of the in the case, Poweradjust is installed as well.

All is left to do is to install the pump, radiator and the tubes. And hope it is still working and does not leak.

P.s. I’ve got som 0.2mm thermalpads so I might try to install them

A little update

All runs are made, all components are installed and connected

the rad has 6-32 thread and 30mm stand offs are m3 so I had to improvise.

all is left is a leakyest and cable managment

Leak test miserably failed!

the second hand radiator leaked at the fittings, it is not a problem, I knew that 25mm thick rad will not do, so I ordered a monster 60mm rad from barrow (aliexpress) about 10 days ago and it is in the process of leaving China, it is the only one with a port on the other side.

the other problem is the waterblock, it leaked at the O-ring, on top of that M4 bolts were really stuck and I ended up drilling out 4 of them!!!

I hope I can find a matching size O-ring in the hydraulics shop.

Watercooling on the cheap is not easy)))

By the way after the flood the rig is up and running on air

Da monoblock issue is fixed! 

I went to hydraulics shop, and they had 2mm thick rubber, a drop of superglue and it is done almost as good as original EK one.

used some stainless hex headed bolts and a special sticky tape to get it in place

screw it all together, filled it up with water, tightened the bolts up and 1 hour later it had no leaks

Problem solved!!! cost me a 100 rubles (1,50 usd)

I'm going to change bolts to the same as original but stainless, it matches better with nickel fittings)

UPDATE

Got the correct stainless bolts, the leak test of the monoblock is passed.

so it is not the “wrong” cpu on incompatible mobo, but also unsupported by QVL ram (Overclocked) as well

I’m still using wrong os as a daily driver.

Nice work.  The fold pattern for the case is reminiscent of the InWin S-Box (which never officially hit the market) with some serious twists.

Unfortunately aliexpress seller sent me wrong fittings, so I used some very old EK compression fittings, the thread length is a bit too long so they were incompatible with modern fittings. So I had to made them fit with a drill and an angle grinder.

I was a pain to get it all fit at the back.

It is fully assembled and leak tested. However reservoir-less build is a pain to bleed all the air out.

vega56 does not go higher than 56c, 9400f stays at 60 max

so I googled the issue, and found out that the X back bracket is a must. So I drained the loop, removed the GPU, put some new thermal paste, and screwed on the X bracket the result is great!!!

Also did a gpu stress test (heaven) in macOS the gpu temp stabilized at around 47C, the water stayed at 35C, the fans were spinning around 1200-1300 rpm

I finally managed to get my apple wifi card working. the problem was a ribbon cable adapter. due to the fact that the cooler is not limiting the hight of the wifi adapter I can install a direct one. One of the pig-tails was a few mm too short so at first I was could use one of them bluetooth or wifi. So I filed the metal cover to shift the left pigtail to the right. The challenge was to install it without draining the loop.

So I was playing “the evil donut” game for around an hour, and playing with fan profile. Managed to get it stable at 1100rpm with, water temp was around 36c and the gpu hit 52C with a hotspot - 67C.

NF A12x25 are almost silent at 1100rpm. At idle the fans run at 500 rpm and keep both gpu and cpu at near ambient temp. (I can not get them any slower cause I Do not have pwm control, yet but working on it) The CPU is not a problem in my case cause it is a 9400f and it does not produce any heat. The next goal is to get as many fps out of this vega56 as possible without using a power play table. Undervolt, overclock and increase the power limit, and trying to get it with a same noise level.

Today was wattman and afterburner day. They are very exciting games) managed to 930 on hbm and 1670 on the core. Undervolted the core -100 mv and increased the power limit by 50%

however with wattman the vrm temp went up to 90+ and with afterburner just 82c

end up rising fan speed by 200rpm

got a result in superposition comparable with watercooled gtx1080 not bad for a little itx card

I was very curious about how Sapphire pulse vega 56 will perform with with vega 64 bios, so I flashed it with Sapphire nitro vega 64 bios! And it was a bricked bios. Turn the bios switch back and it booted with stock-performance bios. So I started to look how I can revive Second bios. The solution was simple.

Boot with working bios. Put the switch to the bricked bios and flash it again. To do so I used XFX, RX Vega 64 Double Edition, Radeon RX Vega bios. Reboot. And it booted To windows without any problems, a quick driver update and it is detected

945 mhz on memory is a sign of a successful bios update (the subvendor changed as well from sapphire to xfx)

started to push it a bit, hbm was stable at 990mhz (it is hynix) a quick undervolt and maxed out power limit and it is faster than undervolted stock 56

I will increase voltage and rise the gpu core frequency to see how it goes.

Update: I did 1700 OC and maxed out the power limit.

But the VRM went up to 96C. I'll try to replace Chinese thermal pads to proper EK ones (I hope it will help) also it looks like I'm not very lucky with the silicon lottery(

A little update.

An idea of reservoir-less loop failed, the motherboard waterblock was slowly filling up with air, tilting the rig around does help but not for a long time. For some unknown reason the air was getting trapped at the end tanks of the rad

Finally a small box from China has arrived with correct size fittings, due to well known reasons it took exactly 2 months to get to Russia

So I’ve changed all mix and match fittings to a new barrow ones

I must tell you that your build is really interesting and I really liked the fact that your tested lots of options!
