What RAM should I buy?

Im new to PC building scene and I have recently bought an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 processor, and a MSI X370 Gaming Plus motherboard as part of my new build. Right now Im not sure what DDR4 ram to order that is best gonna work with my motherboard and cpu. The website states that the motherboard supports 'DDR4-3200+(OC) Memory'. Does that mean I need to get at least 3200mhz ram? or am I fine with 3000mhz?

Ryzen CPU's love fast RAM but I don't think you'll notice much of a difference (if any) between 3200 and 3000mhz ram. Just be sure to use dual channel memory.

according to MSI webpage "1866/ 2133/ 2400/ 2667(OC)/ 2933(OC)/ 3200(OC)+ MHz" but as @steelo said ryzen love them phat speeds so unless theres an insane price difference id go for the fastest possible

I've tested my 3000mhz kit at 3000, 3200,3333 and 3400, i didnt noticed much gain over 3200mhz on cinebench r15 on my 2400G, but there is a decent gain from 3000mhz to 3200mhz. Maybe its because of the 2400G or the cheap DS3H but i'm just sharing what i experienced.

I'd say get the fastest you can afford.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

@TakaNe  All benchmark and test show 3200mhz to be the sweet spot.  With a 2-3% reduction at 3000mhz.  Above 3200 mhz, 1-2% increase, meant the increase in cost wasn't worth while.  The fastest you can afford is actually bad advice in this instance.

Intel 12400F | 2x8 3000Mhz Corsair LPX | ASRock H570M-ITX  | Noctua DH-N14 | Corsair MP50 480GB | Meshilicious | Corsair SF600Fedora

Thanks let me know if I said something useful. Cheers!

Thanks everyone, I think HyperX HX432C18FB2/8 8GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL18 1Rx8 Memory would be good for now then? I will upgrade to 16gb later on.

No, it is not necessary to run at 3200MHz, and that is not necessarily the maximum speed either. That is simply the maximum tested speed that the manufacturer is confident properly rated RAM can run at. Go with 3000 or 3200, the former if the price difference is significant (Which it very rarely is), the latter if not. And, of course, use dual channel or you're missing out on a lot of performance for no good reason. Also watch out for memory with a lot of ranks, as that can hurt performance on Ryzen by a surprisingly significant degree, while funnily enough helping it on Intel platforms. Those ranks are also the reason why more DIMMs tends to just hurt performance.

"uhhhhhhhhhh yeah id go with the 2600 its a good value for the money"

No, you'll want at least 2 sticks to begin with, each occupying a separate memory channel.

yeah you definitely don't wanna get just one stick thats no bueno. sure it will work but the experience wont be good imo

You want dual memory modules. For example, (2) 4 gb or (2) 8 gb sticks of dual channel RAM. Never run a single stick of RAM, especially with a Ryzen CPU. That will cripple performance pretty badly.

If my memory serves me correctly, you suffer a pretty substantial performance hit running with a single stick.

Hmm, I will probably get this then, for the dual channel: Patriot Memory PV48G300C6K VIPER 4 Series 3000 MHz 8 GB Dual Channel DDR4 Memory Kit

Then later on I will get another 2x4gb of the same ram.
