4K on a GTX 1660?

So I can get a 4K Dell ET322QK for 379 CAD (280 USD) and it’s seems pretty good. Freesync, VA, 100% SRGB colour coverage. Problem is, I have a GTX 1660. Has anyone tried playing Apex 4k on a Vega 56, RX 590, GTX 1660Ti or other card in that range? I want to know if I could hit 60fps with a bit lower settings. I also have an overclock that I can apply, it’s around 150mhz core and memory from 2001 to 2500.

Other than that I just play War Thunder which could run on a lemon battery.

If you have a 1080p monitor, you can activate DSR 4.00x in the NVIDIA control panel then set your resolution to 4K and see what kind of performance you get.

if you're fine lowering settings yes you can play pretty much any game at 60fps with a GTX 1660... but you should think if it's worth having the extra resolution on a worse looking image to begin with.

If you're okay with adjusting settings you can have perfectly fine gaming experience but the compromises are still there, I'd say if you're set on getting the 4k screen for not only gaming but other stuff like video playback it's worth to go with it... you can also play games at 2560x1440p instead which should look very alrightish on a 4k screen but give you significant performance boost.

I’ve tried DSR before, I guess I’ll test it when I get home. I have a 1440p monitor.

I play a lot of games at 4k on an r9 fury, the performance should be about in the same ballpark with a 1660 - you can do it as long as you're ok with giving up a few settings.

@Princess Luna For apex, I really don’t care about the settings, as long as I can hit 60fps. I’m used to lowering settings, I gamed at 1440p for around 3 years with a GTX 960, I just got the new GPU recently. Getting max or near max in War Thunder should be easy, I get around 100 FPS when I turn off Vsync in 1440p.

Just to clarify, lowering the settings to max lowest, then maybe you'll get 60fps if the game is CPU intensive and you have a good cpu

My CPU isn’t that good, i5 4460. It shouldn’t matter though, basically everything is GPU bound at 4K.

CPU intensive games apply to 4K also...... what are you saying??

Well most games are GPU bound when playing at 4K, as the CPU operations needed at 1080p are largely the same as at 4K, but the GPU has to work a lot harder.

Of course the GPU load is bigger, but the CPU rendering in CPU intensive games is also

Just checked the price again, it’s actually 329 (245 USD). That’s a pretty good deal right? 10 bit colour, 100% SRGB and Freesync with 4K doesn’t usually come cheap.

You'll need to set DSR 2.25x to simulate 4K performance then

I see. Thank you very much. Playing a shooter at 30-40fps was really painful, I just want to avoid that.
