Are ‘thinkpad’ great ? (E495)

Hey I am planning to buy the E495 . After confirming with the Lenovo support they mentioned that it has 2 ram slot and a fhd 14 in display

very much unlike like the older generations of E series thinkpad...

what is your say in this regard?

my exact model (planning to get one) is:

https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-e-series/E495/p/22TP2TEE495

(the 48k one as I will upgrade to a total of 12 gb ram and 16 in the coming future)

I expect this machine to love me for the next 4 years

Thanks,

Siddhant

Can you ask the Lenovo support if the memory is soldered, or self upgradable?

Because i am also thinking of either the T495, or the next gen Thinkpad with ryzen 4000.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

E series? Hell no.

Thinkpad name on a consumer tier laptop.

Buy a T or X series.

But the E495 seems to be a great improvement from the previous versions!

Having consumer friendly features like upgradable ram and easy to repair design does not make it a better laptop. It's still an e series, it's Lenovos equivalent to an Acer Aspire but with the Thinkpad brand name on it. Not a bad laptop by any means, but far from a Thinkpad.

If you want a laptop that will last through a solid 2+ decades, buy a T series. If you're OK with something that's likely going to have some kind of age related component failure and be less durable, the E series will be fine for that.

My aim is to Make it last for 3 -4 years maximum  . Not more than that

yes but I want to experience the thinkpad like features of TrackPoint and the keyboard itself .so  I believe it must be great 4 me with my budget.......

In terms of reliability? If yes then you have to opt for premium business laptop / workstation which is much more expensive

E series is consumer grade not business grade, good model nevertheless

Location? Budget? Any preference on weight, battery life and display size? Mind low sRGB display?

Desktop specs:

Spoiler

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

Montech Century 850W Gold Tecware Nexus Air (Black) ATX Mid Tower

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16ACH6

Phone: Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro 8+128

Battery nope as i’ll  constantly be plugged in to power

srgb display. As long as it is decent and a good brightness level.....ok

weight not actually but anything below 1.8kg is gr8 for me.....

i just want the TrackPoint and other thinkpad like basic features

i shall buy the t or x series once I go to college (university undergrad)

If the cost if above 65000 INR, then its not good if at that price point they are giving 4gb starting.

As long as you can upgrade it and maintain it then why not. It looks plenty powerful.

Then it is good. As long as it is upgradable the ram and the storage, then it is a good choice. Go for it

Only the old IBM Thinkpads are great.

Yeah, That is a great point. No modern Thinkpad is really a Thinkpad like the OG ones. All of them are very different than the OG ones. Sadly T60 was the last one... Louis made a great video on this :

i own t460s, t480 and e450, and the oldest e450 is still running great. Yeah of course it shows some price cut downs like plastic chassis, materials, poor color gamut lcd panel, etc, but its still better than my company’s dev laptop ideapad 330 series. I wonder those who say e series are bad ever used one before?
