What does your company offer as a work computer?

They are horrible!! Would prefer lose my wrist due to too much computer "winkwink" than use those!

tbh, I rather can do what I love without pain and use a vertical mouse, than wrecking everything I can do because using a normal mouse... If it works fine for you with normal mice, go ahead :)

For the work pc, as an engineer I get to toy with an 8 or 10 core xeon (xeon e5 v4's) with hyperthreading and some midlevel quadro, dunno what exactly. And totally unnecessary 64 GB of RAM, didn't get that baby over 12GB usage even while simulating (in win 7 and SolidWorks Simulation).

And two 24" 1080p displays

before that, I was using a 2009 ish PC with a unbearably slow quad core xeon with hyperthreading and a mid level quadro from that period.

Thinkpad T460, 32bit Windows, locked and heavily modified by the company. Not allowed to even clear recycle bin.

Just boot to Tails on a USB drive.

If you do it right, you can run and login to your normal OS in a sandbox from in Tails.

I used to use a boot drive so I didn't have to take two laptops when traveling with my work laptop (Precision M6800).

Where do you work that your IT is competent enough to check BIOS password check sums to make sure no one accessed the BIOS?  It's like being worried about being fired for ripping the "Do not remove this tag" tag from a mattress.

Also, cracking your BIOS protection is a 15 minute job.

If they have  TPM and bitlocker enabled (which seems likely if they have bothered to lock down the BIOS) then you won't be able to view anything even if you did boot from a live stick.

For a local government: all the PCs are Optiplexes equipped with an i7 2600 + 8gb. Most are still running Win7. The civil engineers have slightly newer machines, with i7 4770s + 16gb RAM.

My previous job provided me with a iMac 5k. The Core i5 3.5Ghz model. Fusion drive, 32GB DDR4 RAM and Radeon Pro 575. Nothing too fancy, but worked perfectly for what I had to do.

In my current job, which is in all aspects but the computer an upgrade. This is what I currently work with: i5 4460, 16GB DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4600 (integrated) and a slow HDD.

And my work loads can be quite heavy (graphic design).

Sometime I spend a good chuck of my time waiting for work to render. Yikes.

Man, I need to update to this tomorrow if I remember to take laptop specs up. Its Dell something with i7, that much I already checked. Supposed to be "heavy duty" option compared to Thinkpads as alternative.

The way office is, its open space all around without anyone having own place. You go in, sit where there's free and connect single USB3 to gain essentially dock capabilities and 2x Lenovo 1440p monitors.

E: Full station specs:

Dell Precision 7530

i7 7820HQ

with iGPU

16 gigs of RAM

Win10 Enterprise

2x Lenovo ThinkVision P27q-10 1440p

Targus USB3 DV4K dock

Logitech K280e

Microsoft mouse (no visible model number)

Innovative display mount

Chair and high-adjustable desk are ISKU Interior (local brand, my home chair is also from them)

One of my family members can do work at home, and if they do some kind of Dell or HP ultrabook is loaned out to them.

I don't know the exact model but it's definitely i5 based, as when I first saw it I assumed they had got a new personal laptop.

I work in a kitchen so no computers for me, but our office room has some i5 based SFF computer from dell/HP.

Don't use it myself, but for some basic email, online training and stock ordering I can't imagine them really needing anything better.

Well, job has changed so I suppose I'll update. My company is me, I do tech refurb/resale now. My work laptop is a Latitude E3400. Low power C2D of some description, 3GB RAM, iGPU. Only use for downloading drivers, making boot USB's, and troubleshooting if I can't get to my desktop keyboard.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Surface Pro. I got an additional 2 monitors on my desk so that makes it a 3 monitor setup... and I still run out of desktop space.

Work for a networking company

Right now I have a ThinkPad P50 with 64GB of RAM and an i7-6820HQ but next year I'll probably upgrade to the P52 or P53, whatever is available. Every 3 years we get a refresh and the choice is between a ThinkPad and Apple laptop

Personally if available I would definitely get the P53 lol Hopefully they will actually use a decent heatsink. I've had 3 P52's now. My Xeon P52 surprisingly doesn't suffer from the same thermal throttling as my other 2. My P52 with the 8850h was sadly destroyed in a car accident, and the other drivers insurance company kinda screwed me on liability so I ended up getting a stock config with 8750h.

I have it configured with 4 drives, which is one of the nice things about the P Series, 64GB RAM with my Xeon having 128GB. I've done some undervolting with the 8750h and put a stop to the thermal throttling and improved the performance a bit.

Don't get me wrong the P52 is still one hell of a machine, plus you no longer need to spend $2000+ for 128GB RAM like I did when it first came out lol

I have a virtual desktop (VDI) running Xeon E5-2697. It's an improvement over the nearly 10 yr old HP desktop with HDD that took several minutes boot time.

My dad's a reporter so the company (the media outlet in this case) gave him laptops.

I think he had a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 until 2014, then betwern 2014~2017 the company got him a Samsung notebook (can't remember the specs). In 2017 he got a LG Gram. Pretty nice.
