Worst Online Shopping Mistake

Nettly_

I wanna know what mistakes you have made while shopping online. Does not need to be a tech item.

I'll go first. So it was maybe... midnight and I was browsing the internet and found New Black - Dell OEM Inspiron Mini 10 (1012) LCD Back Cover Lid - NDYYJ but.... I f****ed up. Notice how it says Back Cover. I read that as Black cover. I thought it was a full laptop... I checked today and I regret my life. I genuinely thought it was a $20 laptop, not a back cover. Since I used a Gift Card I also cannot return it for a refund. FML

Buying three 1060 cards off of eBay from China... they weren't even cheap, yet they still were fakes.

Were they at least good fakes?  Or did they have a VGA port and tons of spelling errors in the product page xD

Bought the wrong mobo on Newegg.

Stupidly it was announced as a combo discount with an incompatible CPU. I wanted to send it back but I had already cut the barcode from the box for the mail rebate. Sold it later on Craigslist at a loss obviously.

The fakes were alright (At least 300 others bought it). Besides the non-descript shroud, it looked real(ish) - like a card used in prebuilts. The product didn't end up matching the images.

Literally just bought this

(on sale at 339$ CAD, now they are showing 399$ from a different seller, so I bought the last one on sale, basically)

Getting buyers regret so hard right now... Can still cancel it... But I needed a laptop... Why am I making expensive purchases this late at night, ugh.

Does that count as a mistake?....

Otherwise I could just say that I ordered some shrink tubing... didn't really take notice of the diameter of it... ended up with tubing so small that it barely could fit a needle inside... needless to say, not what I needed.

I wouldn't call that a mistake. You bought the products you wanted, and the seller scammed you.

Please tell me you at least initiated a Buyer Protection claim through eBay and got a refund and bought different ones instead?

Why is that making you have buyers regret? For $339 CAD, those are some damn good specs, even if it's refurbished.

HP laptops these days are getting pretty good. I've got an x360 Spectre 13, and at work we've got a bunch of zBook G5's and some x360 Probooks. We've historically been almost exclusively a Dell house, but these new HP's are mostly pretty solid.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

iPhone Xr 128 GB Product Red - HP Spectre x360 13" (i5 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD) - HP ZBook 15v G5 15" (i7-8850H - 16 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - NVIDIA Quadro P600)

Yeaaah, but I always get buyers regret for nearly everything. I just hate spending money on things I don't truly, absolutely, need... I'm super thrifty with money. (It's also why I have a saving account and zero debts... while everyone else in my family lives paycheck to paycheck and above their means, raking up debts, so they have 0$ saved up... sometimes I wonder if I'm really related to them)

Regarding the laptop, after sleeping on it, I'm likely going to keep it.

Really depends on whether or not it's in working order(will be stress testing the shit out of that laptop...) and isn't a complete wreck (never know with refurb that doesn't show an actual picture of the item...)
I'm actually considering just outright selling my PC(as parts) and keep the laptop until Zen 2 / Navi are out, if everything is in working order. Not like I play games anymore.

Overall, with taxes and shipping, that laptop was actually closer to $406. Which, like you've said, really isn't bad for the specs.

My mistakes have mainly been buying risky things on the used market, i guess you could count my first gaming computer as an online shopping mistake tho because i paid €800 for an FX 6300 and a 750TI that power throttled

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

I was drunk shopping on Amazon and ordered a "toy". When it came in the mail it was at least three times larger than I thought it was. At least my wife and I got a good laugh out of it.
