I had already kind of tossed my consoles to the side, I would go months without turning on my PS4 or Xbox one, then I bought a gaming laptop and started playing more, then I started watching videos online about building computers, which I hadn’t done in about a decade and got bitten by the bug again and that’s where I’m at now

I had a gamefly account for many years.  I enjoy RPGs.  I played Fallout 4 and the Witcher 3 back to back and realized that for the amount of time I played them I might as well have bought them.  Steam sales looked like (and still do) a great value to me.  I also wanted to mod Fallout and Skyrim.

most console games have ported to PC with higher graphics, and others can be well emulated. what else more important that this?

Skyrim mods, mostly.

Also wanting to record gameplay without paying for a whole separate capture card. Not something I do too much, but yeah.

Wanting to properly video edit and (digitally) draw on my PC was also a reason to get a better PC (my previous PC was incapable of properly gaming or doing these other tasks).

Hmm, well now. So many young'uns here, all this talk about Xboxes and PS4's and the likes, whereas for me, it was a switch from the Nintendo NES to an Intel i80286-based IBM PS/2 Model 30! Also, the reason for the said switch was that I wanted to learn C/C++ - and assembly - programming and you couldn't do any of that on a NES!

A few reasons:

  1. PCs aren't just used for gaming and video streaming
  2. I didn't like how you have to pay monthly/yearly to play online on consoles
  3. It was a step up from the laptop that I own
  4. On consoles, some games were not backwards compatible or in some cases, new games don't get released for older consoles (you have to buy a whole new console just to enjoy the game you want to play)
  5. I don't need to upgrade the whole PC in order to enjoy newer games, just specific components (unlike consoles)

Etc..

Because I was sick of having to pay for the privilege to play online on PS4...

That, and also because a PC was more versatile and would allow me to enjoy using a desktop and tinker around to get to know PC hardware a lot better, and it's become a hobby so transitioning from console to PC was my destiny.

Same man, I was bored in 2017 with my Xbox 360 (I know, it’s a whole other story) and the desktop PC had a i5-3300s which was crap, then I discovered PCMR, then I bought a 1050ti in August 2018 (after crypto prices) then I thought I broke it, then I tried to put it in again, then it worked! Nov 2018. Now I happily do emulation of Wii U and play mostly Smash 4, MK8, BOTW, NBA 2k19, and TF2.

Nothing. I use both. As a computer enthusiast, I want the flexibility to play games in any way I want, and sometimes that means getting on a badass Gaming PC, and sometimes that means turning on the Xbox One. Both have their advantages.

I'm considering switching back to primarily co sole gaming, there's always going to be some games that I'll play on PC because it's only possible on PC or mods etc.

I find myself more and more playing console (PS4, switch, 3ds) or even mobile games vs my PC.

PC hardware is getting real expensive

Grew up with PC gaming. Got the hand me down PCs from my dad. Had an awesome Celeron (Like super old!) from 2003 till like 2008 until the old horse knocked it. Lots of great LEGO Star Wars memories with my friend in 2 player mode lol.

I guess its just not appealing to me anymore, I prefer to watch Netflix, because I can pause and take off due to work, so because I sometimes stream off an Xbox, I’ll pick up a few goes at Just Dance.

Never made the switch: Other than consoles that were gifted to me as a kid I never really purchased a home gaming console (Only a Nintendo DS way back when) I did start to use the home PC for games then decided to buy my own PCs and GPUs to upgrade em and such so I've been playing on the PC since the late 90s

For me it was something that kind of happened by accident. Back in 2014, I was a 14 year old trying to be a gaming YouTuber and with my 2 year old, cheap and in no way suited to video editing, laptop it was taking me about 2 hours to render a 15 minute video at a relatively low bitrate. I decided I needed something a little more powerful so decided to look into building myself a cheap editing rig.

I saved up for as many of the parts as I could and got the rest for Christmas. I had built a desktop with an old FM2+ AMD APU. It was a lot better than the laptop but still pretty low powered. I managed to get some cheap games though and it was just so nice to play games with a mouse and keyboard that had been about £15 to £20 not £40+

It went from there. I upgraded the CPU and bought a GTX 960 GPU. I stopped with the gaming videos and moved to tech, gaming got more fun for me again and with all the good humble bundles and steam sales I built up a bigger game library. Still never paying subscription fees.

I then went to Ryzen and this christmas upgraded to a GTX 1070. I haven't turned my PS4 on in months (although I do frequently play smash bros on my friend's switch).

Ultimately the switch occurred because I wanted to be a youtuber and when that didn't pan out I was lured in by the cheaper games and lack of subscription fees. Also just the freedom to experiment with mods and that the PC is useful in my studies as well.

With consoles I can console.  With PC I can do that and much more.  I am not bound to the upgrade path the Sony/Microsoft Gords allow you, and my peripherals are better, my ability to manipulate settings are better (because Im not bound to the restrictions of such a limited system).
