iMac 2010 shows lines on all displays dead GPU???

FinnJim3

i brought a mid 2010 21.5" iMac and it shows lines down the display. at first I thought that it was a screen issue but I plugged in a second display and it showed the same lines so I think it is a GPU issue.

Yeah, if its on all screens, its the Motherboard.

If its only on the main screan it could have been the Screen itself.

Vertical lines sometime came from bad connector.

You can replace this relatively cheap.

Consult with a LCD expert before doing anything.

Did you plug it to a different port on your computer?

One of the displays was the built in and the other was an external display plugged in to the mini DisplayPort, so yes.

I see, i could also be a bad gpu connection.

Bad GPU shows artifact, a random dots appearing in random spot.

Do you think re-seating the GPU could help?

I really don't know, but you can try.

And while doing it, you can also clean up the dust.
