Gtx1070ti or 1070sli

Hi! I have a Asus GTX 1070 strix, I wasn't looking for a new card but I gota reeeealy good deal for a GTX 1070ti. (A so good deal that I would earn money money if I sold it). So now I have to gpus, I can only use one of them other then when I'm rendering. I have a friend who has a Asus OC GTX 1070. My question is:

Should I exchange my 1070ti with his 1070 so I can run sli? Then we both get an upgrade? Any thoughts on what i should do?

You could do it as a favour for your friend, but if it were me and was only concerned with my gaming performance I'd just sell the 1070 run with 1 1070ti. Sure 1070 SLI CAN be faster when it works, but SLI has been going downhill for the last few years and I wouldn't bother messing with it these days.

Don't do SLI, just sell the 1070/1070ti and buy a 2080 or 2080ti and you'll get a much better gaming experience.

1070ti. Obviously being the better card. Assuming your rig can handle two cards.

Sell both cards, buy one new, better one for that.

No, because SLi/CF hardly works with any games today.

Or just buy used 1080 ti. Good for rendering, 2nd place in consumer gaming (tied with 2080) and about half price of a 2080 ti. How about that?

Well that depends how much cheaper.

In some places a 1080ti is only one or two hundred cheaper than a 2080 in which case it's better to get the 2080 for slightly higher performance, newer features, and higher resale value.

It does not justify the higher price tag than it already was. Features like RTX and DLSS are still useless in today's standards, and everyone always does that: buy the flagship card, then sell because change of plans, upgrade or overbought. That style of buy n sell kinda ticks me off.

Features like better nvenc encoder, purevideo, tensor cores, higher resale value, driver updates focused on the 2000 series, etc can definitely be worth one or two hundred bucks over a 1080ti.

Maybe not $300+ but I would definitely pay $100 extra for those things.

But most people will still prefer the 1080 ti, for value over new 2080.

But knowing NVIDIA over the years. Performance and price don't go together.

I’d go 2080 simply for the better encoder but given I use a second pc that isn’t a big deal to me. 

 

I dont even know how much a 2070 is going for. But 1080tis going around 500/600, more appealing for me.
