What Os should I use ?

I have a Asus Eee PC 900a with 900 MHz CPU and 2 GB of Ram.

What OS should I use ? It is not for me, for a kid. So mostly youtube and stuff like that.

Win7 or Linux imo.

With that kind of spec I'd say it's definitely gotta be a low resource compliant linux distro. Try one or 2 until you find the right feel..

I personally like Elemenary, or Neon... but have only used them on a 64 bit machine VM for the most part. Lowest spec I have used them on was a tri-core AMD PC for my sister... and with an SSD, so results may vary.

You can use some regular distro, but install a lightweight desktop manager like LXDE. I think it should run fine like that, and you won't skip important updates.

2GB RAM is enough for many Linux distros, but that 900MHz CPU is really slow. It should be able to run AntiX just fine, but it's not the easiest to use.

Lubuntu might work on it as it has 2GB RAM. For Xubuntu the CPU is most likely too slow.

 

Edit: The EeePC 900A seems to have an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz. My Compaq Mini 110c has the same CPU and 2GB RAM and it can run Xubuntu just fine, but I'd recommend using Lubuntu.

For a kid? I would personally say either Windows 10 or maybe Ubuntu (because Minecraft (kids still like Minecraft right? (I feel old :( )))

System that is already installed. Installing new system on that crap will be pain in the chip. Much easier will be just modify / tune up your current system.

Sure why not pay for adware that will run like crap on a system that old? By your answers I'm kind of guessing that you are trolling but making OP waste $100 on a Win10 license is a d**k move.

 

Anyway, you should look at a lightweight distro, something that uses LXDE would probably be your best option.

Ubuntu will NOT go well with that machine, it's too old and GNOME3 needs memory.

Op is the rare case and a windows 7 machine needing a windows 10 also means a license fee. 

 

$100 for a Windows 10 on a first gen Intel atom netbook that probabaly itself costs just $100 back in the days is a very little price to pay? I doubt the system is even usable. Don't jest.

Win10 Pro key is like $5 on ebay. I bought two of those keys and they work perfectly fine.
