Looks like AMD is going to thrash the 9900k .  With a nice 5.1 boost on all cores and a 7nm process to boot. And 16 cores.  Good night 9900k Only 499 dollars for the flagship Ryzen 16 core monster

I'm pretty sure we've seen this before here.

The fact that the article is from Dec 5, 2018 also leads me to believe there's a high chance this was posted before but I just can't be arsed to look it up.

 

Great news if true, but lets not get our hopes up... Lord knows how much we got burned for that in the past.. (Anyone remember the hype behind Bulldozer?)

Plus it's definitely in the "Is This Too Good To Be True" box since it has exact core/thread counts, CPU names, as well as exact pricing already figured.

I don't know.  Im just passing information I came upon.  But if I was a betting man the Ryzen flagship will have 16 cores.  Then the ThreadRipper will have 32 cores.

It's all g haha, but yeah we will see. AMD said they will release info officially at Computex which is at the end of May. 

 

I'm hoping for continued AM4 support as promised, and some 12-16 core beast CPU's as well.

the rumors are 5.1 on the 8core (i'm skeptical), not the 16, the 16 looks to be 4.7 or less. Either way if the even if the 8core doesn't beat the 9900k in single threaded (which it likely will) the 16 core still is intriguing.

 

Pricing was 499 for 12 and 749 for the 16 iirc, there was also a cheaper version of the 8core for 350. (too lazy to look it up again),

Nope. We've had relatively credible leaks of the low tier chips from benchmarks, but other than that, no credible leak of anything.

 

Actual credible leaks are likely to happen within the next month as we near Computex... Or really, at Computex, when AMD showcase their new chips proper.

My prediction:

 

The 8/16 chip will be on paper in parity with the 9900k, perhaps slightly faster.

 

But due to the IO die, Zen2 will still have worse latency and it will trail slightly behind the Coffeelake parts in comparison with similar core configuration in gaming tasks.

 

Frequency wise, my prediction is the leaks are way too optimistic, and high 4ghz range is the best we'll see even with overclocking. 

 

The 8/16 will launch at $299 price point, with the 12/24 launching at the 1800x MSRP of $499. 

 

Ryzen 3 and 5 models that are 4/8 and 6/12 will release later between $149-249.

 

Once Intel releases whatever they have coming, AMD will launch the 16/32 at $599 to one up.

I'd bet on slightly higher price points as AMD is looking to increase margins from their measly 5% right now.

A lot of mainstream, general-interest, or "business"-oriented news sites do this. Nobody working for them actually knows anything about tech (or at least nobody making editorial decisions does), so they recycle whatever dubious rumors are available to get clicks.

 

It's even worse with, say, mobile devices, as people interested in new PC parts are a niche audience in the grand scheme of things. Back when I followed new smartphone releases more closely than I do now wading through the rehashed rumor mill nonsense on everything from Business Insider to the "Christian Post" to find any actual new information was infuriating. That was when I learned Google doesn't offer any simple way to exclude certain sites from your search results.
