I am really surprised that this has happened in the UK beucasue the fastest I've seen for consumers is 176 down.

I was talking specifically about the UK, I know others have higher speeds such as Gigabit from Google Fiber but I don't know of 176 down in the UK that's available commercially.

I know for a fact my ISP is CAPABLE of higher speeds, I worked there for about a year. They just don't feel they need to spend the extra money to hook people up properly because it's good enough to make profit right now.

I'm only getting 6.5 down and <1 up on SKY at the moment, and god the connection is shit, in the busy times, my ping doubles, and I can't even watch 1080p vids properly.

It actually plays without buffering most of the time, except in the busy times...
I can even watch the wan show on High...
And fibre is not even avaliable on my street...

In Portugal you can have 400Mb/40Mb  for 70€/month (internet only). But it's not available in all regions.

Commercial or not it's good to hear that BT is trying to push the limits... I'm saying this since I'm a very happy customer of theirs thus far
