Cannabis in Canada

Delete if not allowed. It is very taboo where I live. I live in the bible belt of the USA. In Canada do you just go to a shop and buy it? How does this work? Is it legal for touists?

You can walk into a shop and buy it depending on your age. (18 for Quebec and Alberta, while it's 19 in the remaining provinces)

I would suggest buying with cash, since credit cards can be traced and risky purchases might be asked about at the border. (when returning to the US)

Problem with crossing the border (as some of you have suggested) is federally in the US its still illegal. So if you ever admit to having it ever at any US border or get caught with it, your considered breaking the law and are actually ineligible for admission into the US. Same with Canadians going there. Never admit you've had it and certainly never carry it through.

I am not planning on crossing the border with it. Just wanted to know how it is handled in Canada. I know Vancouver has been called little Amsterdam.

First of all its illegal in the US at the Federal Level and seeing how you have to deal with US Customs, your going to be fucked up the ass if they catch it. While states are legalizing it, you can still be arrested for having it by Federal Agents. While this is not an issue most places, if your caught with it on Federal Property such as a Federal building, Court house or even the Interstate System, then you can be arrested.

You dont have to go all the way to Canada to enjoy it. You can just go to a state that its legal. Of course you need to research state laws to see what applies and such. We just Legalized it here in Michigan, though you cant just go a buy it yet, while your allowed to possess and smoke it, they are still working out the rules that will govern dispensaries, because your not allowed to buy from a Medial Dispensary unless you have a medical card from your doctor.

I LOVE the smell. I don't plan on smoking it though. I am more of an edibles girl. For medical reasons.

Tennessee will be the last state to legalize it. I need it for medical reasons. I have PTSD and Intracranial hypertension. It really helps for that. Just flying will be awful but it will be worth it to come meet everyone and see beautiful Canada.

Now that it's legal your allowed to walk around with it all you want. "Regular smoking bylaws"are still in effect tho. So no smoking within 20 meters of a public doorway or some crap like that. I smoke it before I go to bed

Awesome. For some reason smoking it gives me anxiety but edibles don't. It really helps with my PTSD and IIH,

Legal for tourists is more of an entry into your own country issue; if you have ID with your age on it, you can purchase it while in the country. We don't care about your country's laws, only our own. Upon reentry to the US they might ask you if you have any on you, but I don't think they'll really care if you consumed it while abroad; they have much bigger issues to deal with than that.

Hmm. Not sure on that one. Have said I've smoked weed in the past several times at points of entry, never had an issue. Depends entirely on the border guard; generally they have much more important things to be doing. Hell, at some border crossings I've gotten through with simple ID and no passport because I forgot it at home.

Body highs are quite a bit different than smoking. Just make sure you check the dose so you can fully enjoy the event

But... It's legal in some states in the US. Couldn't they just go to California or Colorado or some other place like that? No borders to cross.

If they are in Tennessee, nearby Illinois will have it legal in 2020, they could go there by car if they don't want to fly... (Unless they are literally on the other end of the State... could be a long ride)

Not sure where you live, but pot is RAMPANT in the US.  In Atlanta it's incredibly common and I know at least 4 people within 5 miles that deal (not use, deal).  One is a doctor, one is a real estate agent, a stay at home dad, and a college kid my son knows.

 

Alpharetta/John's Creek/Milton GA... there is more weed than alcohol at the adult get togethers, pool parties, kids parties (yes), etc.

 

Pot is SO not taboo.  It's everywhere.  Look harder.

You dont have to go all the way to Canada to enjoy it. You can just go to a state that its legal. Of course you need to research state laws to see what applies and such. It's a delicate balance. For a regular customer it might as well be legal since those don't have much contact with federal law enforcement (except when crossing borders) and stay mostly under the radar. State police will leave you alone.

 

It's the business owners and growers who have sometimes troubles with keeping the Feds off their backs (problems with banks, taxes etc.).

 

No wonder sometimes they call it "ask your mother" law - as in, one parent telling you something is OK, while the other clearly disapproves. As long as you do it with fathers approval behind mother's back, you are fine but if she catches you, she will overrule it
