Is a GTX1060 6gb still a valid card??

Hey.

 

So couple of months ago i had to sell my PC.

I7 4790k

GTX 1060 6gb

16gb 1333

 

Now i have a budget of 600£(for tower) and i want to jump back on a horse. Am i able to build similar or stronger rig power Wise. Was thinking about waiting for that ryzen 3000 series to drop, but what about gpu. Any users of the 1060?? You guys getting along with it??

just terrible 1060 6gb pricing. Both AMD and Nvidia have excess stock on their aging mid range cards, but Nvidia's price cuts are nowhere near as aggressive as AMD's. Not a good buy unless you can find one especially cheap

 

As for performance, anything that's not a AAA game will do fine.

Get a 1660ti, a new is cheaper than a used 1070 and is almost the same performance (depending of the game even higher)

or a 580, 1660 or a second hand card like the 290x, 390x and many more are good options too

 

tho if you ask me, i can do something glorious for 600 bucks

Well if it's used market were talking about there's too many option and also less options at the same time

Cheaper than a used 1070? That is simply not true. Check used 1070 prices on eBay.

probably it is in my country, dollar can have a really high price sometimes here, maybe we got 1070 here with the dollar in a high price and 1660ti with discount or better price for the dollar. Or the people sealing are crazy and making a high price

1060 will play nearly every game at 1080p at high or ultra settings currently so if you can get one around $200 might be worth it

I've seen plenty of 1070s from $210-250. A 1070 may be a better deal.

1060 6gb pricing is pretty shit rn. They cost like... $10 less than than the 15-20% faster 1660. That's like the cost of a pizza for a 20% faster card. You'd legitimately be insane to not go for that. RX 580 makes a bit more sense since 1660 is $30 more (15% more expensive), but RX 580 also comes with 2 free games which ups it's value if you care about the games. 1060 6gb however makes absolutely no sense. If you want to spend $210, skip lunch for a day and get 1660 for $220. If you want to spend less than that, go RX 580 for $190, get slightly better performance in newer games than 1060 6gb, and take the 2 free games whether you care about them or not.

This is the value judgement I made when I made my LAN/work mobile set-up.  Was looking for something that could basically play 1080p at 60 fps consistently on high to ultra settings in games.  Was initially thinking a 1060 or 1070 would fit the bill, but on browsing ebay and craigslist for a while, I was finding no deals worth the decrease in performance of the 1060; the 1070 of course would be similar in performance and maybe deals have gotten better, but at the time nothing was a good enough deal (some more expensive for a used, some right at 280-290) to make me just forgo the used market hassle and get a new 1660ti complete with warranty.  

 

It is interesting to me that even right now the 1070 is 360-400 new on various sites.  Almost every review I have seen has the 1660ti just a hair under-performing this card and its only 290.  At those prices why wouldn't one just step up to a 2060?  Whoever is trying to sell these still new 1070's is going to have a rough time with that.

With the second hand market giving such a gigantic range of alternatives on the 200 to 300 dollars price point, cards like the 980 Ti, 1070, V56 and brand new deals on the RX 570 and 580 and now the recently introduced GTX 1660... This really puts the GTX 1060 in a weird spot.

 

It's a card that I'd consider to be pointless if priced above a RX 580 and even then I would consider all the other mentioned alternatives first.

Based on what you guys said, i think i'll try to snatch a used 1070. Prices look fair comparing to what 1060 offers.

 

Also i found an MSI Armor Rx580 8GB brand new for 150£ is it a good deal?

I have a 1060 6gb and it's working just fine for me in everything I need it to do, but if I was in the market for a GPU I probably wouldn't buy another one. There seems to be better value elsewhere. Like maybe a 1660 ti.

rtx 2060 and higher I would go if buying a new gpu but would like to get a card with 8gb or more from now on..
