USB to Ethernet Adapter

Christianm

I have a Dell laptop which does not have an Ethernet port and I also have an Asus old laptop with Ethernet port. I have a cable internet and I only have 1mbps connection (enough for me), my ISP have a local server (portal) where they have all types of files for their users, when we download something from their server we get 5 to 10 MBps (megabyte) through cable connected to laptop, portal is not accessible via wifi which I'm using right now.

so I just bought a cheap usb 2.0 to Ethernet adapter but I only get 600-700 kbps and because of that I have to use my Asus laptop to download files from server. I wonder if I buy USB 3.0 adapter (link below) will I get 5 to 10 MBps or it's just the same as usb 2.0? thanks

you should notice higher speeds with the adapter, worth a shot!

As long as your laptop has a usb 3 port to plug it into you'll see an improvement, if your laptop only has usb 2 ports then a usb 3 adapter will give you identical results to the usb 2 one

adding on to others.

double checking your are not confusing, "bytes" vs "bits" per second.

bytes = 8 bits

bits = 1 bits

are you getting bits & bytes mixed up? 5Mbps = 600KB/s - 5MBps = 5MB/s (40Mbit)

If its 5-10Mbps then you're at the bottom end of that range, but within range...

USB2.0 theoretically has more than enough bandwidth to max out 10Mbps
