Is the System Power B9 300W okay?

NunoLava1998

From what I can see on their website it's just a System Power 9 but not painted (so it's ugly) and in bulk

Not for my build FYI, it's for a very basic build my mom will use, trying to keep it cheap asf

@Stefan Payne to make sure

Thing is, pretty sure there isn't a 300W version in the normal version, and it's not painted while the higher up versions are.

Still looks like a normal SP9 tho

Alright then.

Is this then a good budget build? It's only for very light web browsing, Office, Word, and stuff like that. It's for my mom

Getting an A320 board is less risky because getting it from Amazon not some local retailer

ATHLON 200GE

MSI A320M PRO-E

CRUCIAL BALLISTIX SPORT 4GB 2400MHZ

KINGSTON A400 120GB

SYSTEM POWER B9 300W

NOX COOLBAY MX2

Comes out to 213€ which for a full system is pretty darn good

Trying to make it as cheap as possible, and 4GB is definitely enough for what she needs

The NOX case is just the cheapest good one I found, it's around 25€ and for a Micro-ATX case looks pretty good:

Unlike their cheaper cases (this is supposed to be ATX):

For my mother, I would not spare on things like Mobo or RAM or PSU. :)

Asrock B450M HDV Mobo ~ 60 eur

2x4 gb RAM kit 2666Mhz ~ 55 eur (crucial ballistix CL15, hyperx fury, CL16, patriot viper elite series cl16)

AMD Athlon 240GE ~ 65 eur

Be Quiet! Pure Power 10/11 300W ~ 45 eur

Other cheap PSU:

FSP 350-60APN ~ 30 eur

FSP hexa85+ 350w ~40 eur

225 without case, a reasonable case here is around 25-30 eur as a starter

a few popular choices "locally", though I'm sure this "Zalman" is not available in Portugal? Anyway, a few cheap but regarded as reasonable cases:

Zalman S2 (ATX)
Zalman S3 (ATX)
ZM-T5 (mATX)
ZM-T4 (mATX)

and some 500gb SSD thrown in, Samsung 860 EVO, WD Blue or Kingston UV500

And purely out of love and showing care.. : o) I've got so much to thank my mom, that I'd gladly build even a higher quality unit without a question. ❤️

PS: I don't know whether you from Portugal or not, just one of the links you've posted was with .pt domain& Nuno reminds me of someone. : o)

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

Its a standard, Group regulated 300W PSU with all the bells and whistles you get.

And that's rather short cables and rather basic Voltage regulation and so on.

If you can, get the 400W Version as that has DC-DC, 300W has not.

Oh, so the 300W is bad. I'll look for another one then

Yeah, I'm from Portugal, but it's much cheaper buying from amazon.es than from a local store, plus shipping won't kill you.

Decided to upgrade the PSU to a Pure Power 11 300W and also include a keyboard+mouse for free (she's transitioning from Mac, so the Magic Keyboard/Mouse won't work for i.e. going in the BIOS)

Don't bother.

_ALL_ 300W are bad.

The HEXA85+ could eventually be the best choice in that wattage.

But you really don't have much choice though...

What about the Pure Power 11? Painted, and it seems still like the exact same as the other Pure Powers.

Still little changes from the older ones.

The good ones start at 400W.

That is the same for almost all PSU with only very very rare exception...

So the only thing you can look at is if the 300W has a decent protection chip and a somewhat OKish fan.

That is true for the 300W Pure Power...

If you want better electrical performance and don't care too much about the fan, you look at 400W System Power 9 or 430W Xilence Performance A+.

The System Power 9 400W costs more than the Pure Power 11 300W actually, and the 11 is better performance (the EXACT same as a CX, same quality and it's also non-modular). It's literally 1% away from 80+ GOLD lol

System Power 9 400W uses DC-DC.

Pure Power 11 300W is group regulated

Where can you see that it's group regulated?

Yeah, pretty rare to see a good 300W power supply nowadays, let alone one that's up there with the CX

@NunoLava1998 @Quadriplegic I'm confused by your posts. How did you come to conclusion it's DC-DC and what made you say "damn, it is DC-DC after all..."? Are we looking at the same power supply? I'm looking at Pure Power 11 300W's internals here and you can see it's group regulated. FSP EPN platform.

I did believe it was group regulated at first, but after checking few retailers, pretty much all of them claimed it was DC-DC. Hence my confusion. I'm not advanced to the point where I can judge PSU by its internals, english search for reviews didn't yeld any results
