Put the game on an SSD.

Yes, the Baracuda Pro is better.  Maintains sustained transfers better. 

 

I don't know what else is in your system vs the other guy's system tho.  

 

I will say that HDD's are roughly 3x slower in loading games than SSD's in my experience.  Older Survival games like Rust are terribly optimized and take a long time to load.

 

Again, games should be on SSD's when you can afford for them to be.

Without any specs I can't comment on that video.  Did he have an Optane caching the HDD?  What SSD vs what HDD? 

 

Again, what are the rest of your system specs?  How much RAM do you have?  How full is your HDD?  What CPU?

I watched it, hence my comment.  There are no specs to compare, it just says SSD vs HDD.  What SSD model is it?  What HDD model is it?  Etc etc.

 

You're a couple gens behind which add to the slowness.  Overall, your CPU and HDD are just slower than say my setup if you were comparing a your HDD load times vs my SSD load times.

 

Nice GPU but the GPU isn't the one loading the game.

The CPU, RAM and HDD do the actual world loading.  They setup the world, where resources and assets are, etc.  Where trees, rocks, grass, dirt, and all the rest are found.  The GPU comes into play when you're drawing things and using physics and all that. 

 

This is how I understand that it works.  I'm sure it's not exact but should be close enough.

So you're missing all the other aspects we're talking about here, right?

 

Yes, the Baracuda Pro is a faster drive for loading Rust.  

 

Also, if the drive is only 1TB full of 6TB, you may want to get smaller faster SSD's in the future.  No sense buying a big drive if you're not filling it.
