I was gonna complain it sound like a horrible idea, but actually looking at the product showcase like video, it looks kind of like a neat idea.

At first, I was afraid it was simply going to be a touchpad that you can press on for keyboard actions, but actually looking at how the product is set up, it looks more like a (laptop/chicklet) keyboard with touchpad functionality.

 

This is something might be a neat feature for some laptops too, as many people nowadays don't use the touchpad extensively (only for occasional use when they don't have room for a mouse), which this would work good for.

This is where I think this idea would benefit the most, since space is at a premium. They would need to make the keys stiff enough so that they don't accidentally press down when in 'touch mode'. 

 

I'm less sure about at an actual desk, since you have space for a full-size keyboard there.
