Most cost effective upgrade suggestions?

Hello it seems I need to upgrade my CPU as it's robbing my of frames in modern CPU intensive games.

My current set up is i5 4670k, GTX 1070, 16gb DDR3 ram all mounted on MSI Gaming Z97 5 ( Z97 LGA1150 motherboard).

My quesiton is what would be a good upgrade. The best route would be if I can keep my motherbaord set up and just change the CPU but I'm not sure if that's gonna be possible? Or do I need to change the motherboard for the best most recent ones.

The cheapest thing to do would be just upgrade to a 4th gen i7, but for longevity with this upgrade, you will need to change motherboards. AMD is currently cheaper for a Motherboard+CPU combo.

Yeah I wanted to get something new and not same generation.

So there's nothing still on LGA1150 uh

Also consider your power supply when upgrading. I recommend at least 135W headroom if you need to upgrade.

I think I've got enough, I have 750w

Try and look for either a used i7 4770K or i7 4790K on Ebay.

This's a pretty good deal for AMD. You might want to hold off though, as a lot of hardware is supposed to drop in price over the next few months, and there are rumors of another Ryzen generation.

What do you mean it is robbing you? are you comparing your PC to top end benchmarks?

Unless you have money for i9 mostly you will never reach their high standards of FPS, but you can come very close to it.

4670K is not holding you back IMO until evidence is shown.

Stinkpci5 3550. DDR3 1600mhz 8GB. Gigabyte GA-H61N-USB3.0. Sapphire RX 570 Nitro 4GB oc. Noctua NH-L12. WD Black 600GB. Silverstone PSU 1KW. Advent 1440x900 75hz VGA monitor 1ms. Acer Veriton M464 chassis.

I made a post about 2 days ago about my low FPS in AC Origins and everyone said it was because of my CPU.

Hold out until June and reassess.

If you can find a secondhand 4790k or 4770k for cheap, that works too.

Well if I NEED to change even the RAM type I will wait because my AC Origins isn't running terribly bad.

How well would it perform compared to what I have now? It's still the same generation I'm not sure if it's worth? I can find some at like ~ 250$.

AC games run like trash on everything.

In games that need more threads, the hyperthreading on the i7 will help a lot, and bring performance up to around current Ryzen levels.

That said, $250 is a poor value and I wouldn't pay that much for one.

Hold out for June or look out for opportunistic 4770k/4790k sales under $150 imo

Yeah all used 4770k are kinda expensive on Ebay. I guess I can only find something good locally.

Hold up I found a 4790k for around 220$ canadian ( 160$ USD). Should I bid on it? So 4790k would be plug in play for my Mobo and chipset right because it's same generation?
