Is this app considered illegal?

A client requested I help install some apps/programs on his new build, but I saw the name of the app I double checked on YouTube so is it illegal for me to install it for him?

The program itself is not illegal, it's what they choose to do with it. If their intention is to watch copyrighted content for free, that is what is technically illegal.

 

Will they go to jail for it? Most likely not.

Will you go to jail for installing it? Most likely not.

Will they get a nice letter from their ISP for watching copyrighted content, and being fined a hefty amount? More than likely at some point.

Well, now you know it's likely content uploaded there without the consent of the original owner, the program is basically confirmed piracy; which could be illegal in some parts of the world.

By you knowing this, if you were taken to court, criminal intend could be used. Basically if you didn't know anything about the program, one could argue you didn't know what you were doing was illegal, but if you do know what the program is allowed.. It's different.

 

EDIT: to put it more clearly; by you knowing what this program is likely about (watching cartoons which does not belong to the publisher of the app), you are basically helping this client commit copyright infringement.
