Does anyone on here Vlog or Stream?

Elektra57

I want to start doing some stuff on YouTube. Last night I did a test stream. Playing TF2. I was wondering if anyone else did that could give me pointers or if we want to support each others channels?

Merchant on YouTube has a great video about what you should do that he put out when he reached 100k, start with that. I stream a little but mostly just because I can cuz I have good hardware and Internet :P

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

You need a Thing(TM) to draw people to your channel with; it may be that you wear costumes when playing, or maybe you're just good at talking shit, or maybe you're good at telling jokes and making people laugh, or perhaps you develop some weird role that you play, like e.g. Dr. Disrespect does -- without a Thing(TM) you just won't be able to attract people to your stuff. Find your Thing(TM), try to develop it further and then build your videos around it.

Find a niche you want to focus on, like if you want to chiefly play RTS games and focus on that genre for your videos and streams. Stay engaged with your subscribers and stick to a reliable schedule. Try to upload or stream at least twice a week, preferably more often until you get that committed user base behind you, then you can let off the gas a bit if necessary (kids, work, etc).

If streaming, be strict on offensive comments in chat, as people will be offended and if they see you don't crack down on the offenders or just don't care, you will alienate them and they will spread the word. If you have some trusted friends IRL or online, and they are willing to, you can ask them if they want to be moderators for your stream chat. That will make chat moderation far easier for you, allowing you to focus on delivering good content.

Try to keep your video intros less than 7 seconds. 7 seconds is the so-called "cutoff" in terms of user retention. If the viewer is still subject to an obnoxious intro beyond that time, they are very likely to click off and move on. Try to hook the viewer within the first 20-30 seconds to improve user retention and SEO (search engine optimization).

As your channel begins to grow significantly, learn what SEO is and how to take advantage of it. Learn it, live it, breathe it. The overall success of your channel is strongly affected by this (unfortunately).

Try to minimize the use of licensed music as much as you can. This will make life far easier when dealing with Content ID on Youtube or Twitch's equivalent systems. There's plenty of royalty free music out there that is available on the public domain. A lot of this music is surprisingly decent.

Don't even contemplate monetizing your channel unless you have a strong and steady following and are prepared for the frequent legal issues you'll run into with copyright.
