What Graphics card to run a 240hz Monitor G Sync

TaiPC

I don't know if I'm asking the right question, but I was wondering what requirements do I need to run a 240hz g sync monitor? I'm a PC newbie, so I don't know much, thanks for the help!

I don't know if you need the right graphics card or the right processor.

A 240hz g-sync monitor comes at 24" 1080p.  You will need a 1080 GeForce card or a RTX 2080.  With these cards you will also get free AA which you can turn on in the nvidia panel.   So the 1080p wont show nasty jaggies.  Also you get to set the game settings to their highest.  Also depends what game you play.  If you play CS:GO then all you need is a 1070 or 2070.  But if you want to play at a lower resolution like 1600x900 you can get away with a RTX 2060.  Also like I said before it all depends on what game your playing.  Some will not yield you 240fps and some will easily do so.   As far as CPU, you can get the 8700 or 8700k for 300 dollars and there will be no bottleneck.

Almost any modern GPU with an output that can provide enough bandwidth can drive a monitor to its fullest.

If you're asking what it would take to run games at 240 FPS to make use of that refresh rate, a high-end CPU with strong single core performance and a higher mid-range GPU if you don't mind dropping the details and resolution down. If you're asking for what it would take to drive 240 FPS with maximum details at the native resolution... well  you might be looking at an absurd amount of money for the hardware.

What resolution do you plan on playing at ?

Well there aren't any 240Hz monitors on the market with a resolution of over 1080p (at least on PCPartPicker).

There are couple choices and their 24.5 or 25" and cost 500 dollars and up.

Once again it matters what game he plays.  If he plays CS:GO then he can grab a 1070 and possible graphic settings tweaks he will get his 240fps but it will dip but that is where g-sync comes into play.

For 240Hz, you'll need a good graphics card and CPU. What are you working with right now?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

you need a monster of a cpu with the highest clock speeds for this to get a consistent frame rate anywhere near that 240hz realistically

I’d get the strongest card you can. Unless you wonna turn some things down.

Will also need a strong cpu. Mine sits at 90% on all cores in the two cpu intensive games I play. That’s only 150-180 frames. The card isn’t gonna do much more unless I turn stuff down.

AA Anti Aliasing.  there are different methods of it in the nvpanel.  It means to basically get rid of the jaggies you see in a game.  The higher the resolution the less jaggies but the sweet spot is 1440p with all AA methods turn on and you cant see any jaggies.

For a game like CS:GO you can use a 1050TI and get frame rates in the 100+ at 1080p

I have done a test, turning off all AA ,, and playing game,, then turning all the methods ON , in nv panel,, and there is pretty much no hit on the frame rate.

You'll need the BEST single core performance you can get your hands on, and overclock the hell out of it. At frames this high it is most likely going to be determined by your CPU not your GPU.

I would invest in a 9600k/8600k/9700k and overclock it past 5ghz.

Also i would recommend at least a 2080 or 1080 ti if you want to hit those frames with decent settings in most games.
