Opinion for new build

Evolutiioz

I'm thinking of building a new PC and have made 2 parts lists on PCPartPicker.

Which one would be better for gaming and the occasional streaming?

1) Both will be fine for gaming and streaming but the 9700k will perform better in games.

2) The ROG Strix Z390-E is a pretty shitty motherboard, especially for how much it costs.

3) 650w of power is more than enough for both builds, even when overclocked. Stick with the Focus Plus Gold or a 650w PSU of it's quality.

What resolution and refresh rate are you playing at?

The 2700X will be better for streaming as it has 8c/16t and the 9700K only has 8c/8t.

You could just get a 2600 for now and sell it later on and replace it with a Zen 2 chip that will have more cores and be on par (if not better) than what Intel currently has.. Making it a bad ass streaming and gaming machine..

Just going to point these out, not trying to poop on you.

The AIO you picked is a cooler master one and cooler master AIOs are usually pretty cheap in quality to other AIOs

The Supernova G3 PSU has internal issues, so it's not a great pick.

Can I just ask what is wrong with the I7 build? ?

- I'm not a fan of AIO liquid coolers. They're loud, unreliable, and overpriced compared to air coolers (hence the DRP4).

- The Strix Z390-E is not a great motherboard, the Z390 Taichi is much better (see reviews for proof).

- You can get a 1TB SSD instead of a 500GB one with your budget (MX500 = 860 EVO in terms of performance, MX500 > 860 EVO in terms of value).

- You can get a better better graphics card with that budget (RTX 2070 > RTX 2060).

- Case is personal preference, I think the H500 looks hideous compared to the Meshify C TG.

I know I said i7 performs better, I changed back to Ryzen because future Ryzen CPUs could be even better and they are cheaper, giving budget room for a faster GPU. R7 1700 is just too cheap to make 2nd gen Ryzen 7 a sensible choice.

Other stuff got changed too, case is different because NZXT H500 doesnt have great airflow (just acceptable of it, which means more noise from the fans to get the same cooling effect), swapped RTX 2060 with RTX 2080, changed storage drives for more capacity for the money, changed motherboard for a stronger power delivery, memory sticks for lower price and cooler for lower price, higher reliability and lower noise level. Not like Ryzen 7s get as hot as 9th gen i7 or i9. Also more fans (3 front intakes, 1 rear exhaust, fans that comes with the case on the top) to improve airflow.

Not sure why you would get the Z390 Taichi when the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro wifi is cheaper.

As far as Z390 boards go the only brand that's done a decent job on the VRMs this round is Gigabyte. Asus, MSI, and ASRock have all put in TERRIBLE VRMs for their price points. Gigabyte is using 12+1 power phases.

Garbage VRM quality. Asus really stepped down from the throne that Asus fanboys praise them for. The shitty VRMs get pretty warm compared to the Gigabyte Aorus ones and the quality may even hold back some overclocks.

The MSI Z390 boards are pretty good overall. You have a board for most price points, although Gigabyte has a bit more choice and has the better range overall. I would be happy with a Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon though if I wanted a solid MSI board.

Since everyone seems to be slating the STRIX Z390-E, could you recommend a Mobo of a similar style?

If you need WiFi I would look at the MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon AC or the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi.

The Asus board would cope fine with the 9700K by the way, but it is overpriced compared to the MSI or Gigabyte. On the plus side Asus does have the best bios. The Gigabyte bios is still behind Asus in that regard.

Do you already have a monitor ?

If you are sticking with that resolution/refresh rate then a Ryzen build would be fine, and a lot cheaper. An Intel cpu would be faster for high refresh rate gaming at 1080p/1440p with a strong gpu.

So you could easily go with an R5 2600 and an MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon for example. If you are fine with spending the £1500 then of course you could get a higher end board such as the ASRock X470 Taichi. The new Ryzen 3000 cpu's are due out this Summer though. Should hear more at Computex at the end of May.
