2060 or 1070 SLI?

I was planning on getting an EVGA 2060 for $380 but, was just looking at ebay and two 1070s would cost $4-500 minus shipping. Just curious which route I should take. Also, will my 4790k and z97k CSM board work with the SLI configuration?

That cpu isn’t gonna handle two cards like that. 

 

Id go for a 2060fe myself. Looks good and will breath better than two cards. 

 

If if I wanted better performance I’d do the 1070’s or a 1080ti for that price.

2060.  SLI isn't the way to go.

Not well at all. I play cpu intensive games. It doesn’t keep up. Should do ok with a 2060 but I wouldn’t pair it with a 1080ti unless the games are easy to run and your at 1440 and prolly a frame cap.

Like the gurus above me said, SLI is pretty much dead and nVidia knows it.  Multiple GPU's is for Mining and BitCoin.  For gaming its going to firstly cause problems and not give you a big performance boost.  It is better to get a single card the 2060 will work great with your CPU for 1080p gaming.

tbh I refuse to buy a compact single fan card. just an eyesore in my beautiful white case

edit: even though I am currently using one. got it for free and it's ugly af

nope, last red I slapped in my pc caused crashes. never had an issue with green so I'm sticking to it

There were not a lot of issues with 1070 SLI if youre familiar with it, and it is quite powerful. I went from 970 SLI to 1070SLI and now I'm with a 2080 debating on SLI . . . 1070 SLI scaled well for me in most things, but of course there were many instances where scaling was subpar. Your answer will be based on what games you play. 1070 SLI with good scaling will destroy a 2060. With perfect scaling its just behind a 2080 when all cards are overclocked. 

 

That being said, SLI support is not found as much in newer titles so you will have issues. This is keeping me from 2080 SLI since all the data tends to suggest that there is no support at current. If the support starts coming back, I'd SLI again.
