it's always good to see large internet personalities happy to take pictures with fans. there are some that basically say "if you see me out and about and I don't look super busy, you're more than welcome to come over and say hi and get a picture" whereas others will be rude to fans that encounter them in public.

 

it's all about understanding social cues and not fanboying/fangirling out because they are real people too.

After all of the hassle Linus has been dealing with recently, this certainly would have cheered him up.

Good thing I'm not a celebrity of any kind, because I'd belong in the latter group; I do not cope with strangers well at all and I definitely wouldn't want someone just bursting in on my personal space and demanding attention.

 

I wonder how Linus actually feels about these kinds of encounters. Does he just put on a brave face and pretend, or is he just genuinely happy to randomly meet fans? Hm.

i think he's mentioned it on a WAN show at some point that as long as he's not clearly busy or at a restaurant with his family, going through his front door at his house etc then you're welcome to come up and say hi

I usually just stop by at GameStop, in the back there's usually a whole bin of old Xbox 360 games that go for literally 2 bucks each.

I'm sure it depends. Some techy people are not exactly known for picking up on social cues. Plus a lot of his fans are young teens, and you know how they can be/you were at that time. I'd bet it's all about how and when you're approached at these sort of things. I sure know in the same place I would not like it.

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

He is a very down to earth person according to me because when I met him he was really nice about it :) and I asked him if he could take a selfie with me and lol his son was with him ! :)
