Could I use a 2U Server Chassis/Case for this?

GazCBG

Hi,

I am looking for a slim case that will fit into a 5 inch (127mm / 12.7cm) gap.
After looking around it going to be really hard to find one

So I was thinking maybe a 2U Server Chassis/case and stand it upright (vertical)

This is what I need to fit into it

Motherboard: Gigabyte B250M-D2V Intel Socket 1151 (M-ATX)
CPU: Intel i5 7500 (7th Gen)
RAM: HyperX FURY Black 8GB 2400MHz DDR4
HDD: 1x SSD and 2x 4TB 3.5" Sata 3

It is my personal plex server for at home, that is on 24x7 subject to power cuts

Is a 2U server chassis/case going to be ok?

Thanks,

Gaz

If it fits, it fits. Measure twice, cut once.

You'll need a low profile-ish cooler for your CPU, and I'd recommend using a UPS that can shut it down if you're away from home.

If you use a server chassis you will want to find a way to elevate it off the ground, since the airflow path in a 2U chassis is from front to back. It will also be very loud with stock fans, and any power supply that fits will probably be loud as well.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for the replies. I ended up going for a cube type case: Kolink Satellite

Everything should fit in, but for the CPU fan won't know till I get the case.

I will stand it on top of my main PC case.
