Discussion for those who have taken the RTX plunge

Acid Panda

I know there for now is only one title that supports RTX and that's Battlefield 5. but for those who have a RTX card you obviously turned it on first but do you still have it on and take the performance hit or do the frames mater enough to you.

was RTX worth the plunge or maybe the new cards coming out without the ray tracing going to be be worth the buy

After few driver updates and recent introduction of DLSS, people who are running 60Hz monitors can easily use DXR. A lot of people consider it worth.

the future support for dlss is what made me want to get one, probs should have waited for the amd cards to shake things up a little though. lol

Ray Tracing is still a virgin.  Give is 2 to 3 years before games other then BF 5 and Anthem will have Ray Tracing.  By that time the 3080 RTX comes out.  So if you don't care about Ray Tracing just grab a GTX card like the 1080 for a really good price on ebay.  Just make sure the seller is legit.

Yeaa i doubt that, you need DX12 for that and even tho it has been available since 2015, there are still not a lot of games using DX12 even tho almost everybody can use it.

Once we see DX12 take off we might see stuff like raytracing take off as well, but as long as DX12 isn't widely adopted all the fancy RTX stuff isn't going anywhere.

Yes, but on low. With bfv getting full DLSS support this week, it'll probably go back up to high.

Great post my friend.  Ya your right theres only couple DX12 games.  Even the Unreal Engine 4.0 is still DX11.  Every game I play is DX11 ,, unless I play a old game that uses DX9 which games like CS:GO use.  I pruned my CS:GO the game play and graphics were too 15 years ago lol,

I finally got my Asus Strix 2080 Ti last week, fired up BFV expecting the frames to take a dump and be disappointed. Ran it all on Ultra at 3440x1440 and DXR on High and the frames stayed over 80 the whole time.
There are definitely points that make you stop and say ooooh that's purty. Does it really add to the game? Nah not really. Does the performance hit detract? Nah not really.
Overall I'm pretty happy and will continue to play with it turned on.

All the haters had me expecting a nearly unplayable experience and that's just not the case. But I guess that;s the interwebs for you.

never really got the RTX for ray tracing at all, knew it was gonna be an immature tech.

Ya.. I haven't heard of that being an issue with the 2080 ti, just the lower end RTX cards.. In fact, the 2080 ti is usually said to be the best one for utilizing those features..

That is not 4k.  Run her @ 3840x2160p and lets see if you get 80fps hehe,  sighs

Once you have nv panel all turned on and set to max all AA etc. and run game ultra @ 1440p is the sweet spot.  I get 160 Avg fps in Quake Champions the most VRAM hungry game.

80fps with a 2080Ti is not a good place to be at.  The horizontal resolution is holding the card back.  Just use 1440p resolution and turn on all the AA methods in nv panel as they are free with no performance penalty.  Also in game to maxed out everything and you would get triple digit frame rate and a 144hz monitor would make sense even tho most of the time the game runs at 160fps lets say.  The only card that can pull of 3440x1440 is the 2080Ti but you get a performance hit.  I cant imagine paying 1400 bucks for a video card and getting 80fps.. sighs.  Maybe the 3080Ti in 2 years time will do 144fps on 3440x1440 or even at 4k do triple digit frame rates.  Also SLI is dead so that makes no sense either.
