Setting up my own VoIP server

I was wondering if there is an easy way to create my own VoIP service using my landline number. It can sound a bit outdated but if I use or not I will pay the same to my ISP and Cable TV provider.

Yup you can.  You need ~$300 in DAC/ADC hardware and a server to run it.

Asterisk is a FOSS VoIP server OS that can do all of what you want.

What hardware to be more specific?

You need a POTS interface card.

You could use an Obihai and port your number over to that

3CX maybe? haven't tried but i remember coming across it when looking for IP phone systems.

Its software based.

I heard of people using this: https://www.asterisk.org/ with Google Voice. Ive personally never tried it, as my ISP has a cap and I dont need to waste bandwidth on VoIP. But it sounds like it works for the most part.

For the server setup I recomend FreePBX. Chris from crosstalk solutions has a youtube series on setting up FreePBX. And for your number I recomend that you ask your cable provider if they support acces to the number via a sip trunk (probably don’t) or you could transfer it to a sip trunk provider.
