Yeah, that's always how it worked on Twitch but, for a while, they blocked all ads if you had Prime.

Twitch runs ads randomly through the stream but, the streamer can show them manually as well.

Make sure to quote or tag people, so they get notified.

With Spotify free, if you don't see other adds, you see spotify's own adds for Spotify premium, so you see ads either way.

YouTube music/Google play music have worse sound quality than Spotify premium.

Sites that use third party log in, needs to have that served from a different location than the original media, is that blocked too?

We use a Spotify Premo account at one of my church's for walk-in and walkout music. The compression on some albums and tracks sounds horrid. I've had complaints about it before from many people. Truly, no streaming service will ever have the bit rate of physical media, assuming your hardware isn't garbage either. But personally, I don't think Spotify is any better than G Music in regards to sound quality.

Why is it that people think this stuff should be free anyway?   Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean you have a right to it without condition.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

I personally think it's more to do with the fact that there's nothing physical in return. Most people may not use a certain service very often and find it a huge bother. But if I like a content creator enough, I'll whitelist anything to do with them. In this day and age, people want it now and want it free. I think today's societal mindset has just shifted too far beyond return.

 

EDIT: I also think the majority of people don't understand that ads are basically the only source of income for many places and services (aside from premo memberships). Cable TV used to free because of having ads, and if you paid for it the ads would go away (at least that was the original concept) but today you pay a huge price for cable TV, get lots of ads, and horrible compression rates from some companies. That may also play apart in this whole mindset.

I disagree, usually after banning adblockers the ads get more intrusive, im through and done with popup, new windows, voice/video ads, ads hidden in random places where you might click and open new windows, im just done, unless ads are done properly i wont stop using adblockers everywhere.

Youtube is cancer if they remove adblockers, they just serve too many ads and stop songs or w/e you are watching 20 times to force an ad, that model just wont fly, if youtube ever forces that model and removes adblockers when chrome does other video sites might become more popular, at least thats what i hope.

Im not against ads,  its fine to have ads at start/end and maybe midle of a video and side ads that arent dicks and tits to other porn sites and i do not agree with animation ads and overlay ads that slow down the page a lot fuck that.

Proper respectful ads or adblock thats the only choice companies have.

the value for money wioth spotify is IMO really good. if it was €50 i could understand people using adblock, but it's much cheaper than that.

Spotify is better than g music. It's easy to tell. Many people forget to change to high quality in the settings tho so.....

Also, churches are generally terrible for playing  music in anyway and unless you set up your own speakers usually have bad speakers, or small speakers that is played at so high volume that you get lots of distortion.

Not the churches I install P.A's in. :D  They are my favorite installs because by their very nature (always using lapel mics all over the building, some old timers don't want to see the speakers or mics and a funny layout to boot) they are very hard to get the sound right.   But I test all my systems with Black sabbath, Ramstein and Vivaldi.

Typing from phone so got to be brief. I get both sides of the argument. Ads are a way of making money for these sites. But, there's a serious issue atm with the nature and methodology of delivery of ads that dries the distaste for them. No one complains overmuch or tries to completely eliminate adds on their favourite tv/radio station. Theres a reason for that, and it's down to how the adds are served and what is served.

Well, the churches I have been to have had bad sound, but I haven't been to that many tho.

Seriously. I know ads on the whole are a shitfest but its like people forget, especially in the case of audio-visual media, that the hosts have to pay for licensing when applicable, hosting, and bandwidth.

I totally agree with Spotify. Now that they have more or less almost every feature made available for free users (except better quality, offline and ad-free), it's very understandable to ban users who block ads to get rid of the biggest reason to buy premium.

 

You really can't compare Spotify to YouTube, since YT doesn't really pay for the majority of it's content (IIRC only 1 in 100 active channels is monetized in a way that you can call it income, 1 in 10 active channels gets money but most of the difference between 1/10 and 1/100 is the amounts that YT refuses to pay because they are insignificant). Spotify may not pay much but at least it pays (my friends band uploaded all of their material to Spotify and they didn't get even 1k listenings for a single song, but Spotify paid them enough for a single pint of beer in the end of the year, which is a single pint of beer more than YT has paid them in 7 years; They do it for hobby so a single pint of beer for four guys is more than they have ever got from album "sales" and 100% extra income).

No it's only domains that serve ads. The only issue is things like Hulu were the entertainment is served from the same domain as the ads.

I can understand why people would use adblockers though, not everyone has unlimited data, and if the ads weren't so intrusive and annoying,or would screen the ads to make sure it isn't malware there wouldn't be such a problem with people wanting to block ads on spotify or youtube.  The decision to block accounts is going a bit far though, since spotify can detect if you're using an adblocker,all they would need to do is prevent you from listening to content unless you unblock ads.

TBH most adblock users are just fed up with autoplay videos, popups, flasing, loud ads.... OFC the innocent bystander gets hurt too as collateral damage. The ball is at the ad industry territory now to either stop serving annoying ads or face extinction by adblockers :D . Deploying anti adblock wont either, if presented to ppl with adblock they just going to abandon that platform. (Or get anti adblock killer.)

I'd say not infringing the law is a pretty big difference. It may not make a difference for spotify, but it would certainly make a difference for me. Also, unlike with piracy, the artists themselves are paid by spotify for the license to their music regardless of whether people use an ad blocker or not - so morally speaking, not paying spotify but paying the artist is better than paying neither by pirating the music.

 

Personally I can't stand ads interrupting what I'm doing. If spotify wants to block my account for that, that's fine and within their right - I'll do without their service, or buy a subscription if it ever starts offering anything more than marginal convenience over youtube.
