Apple Cash Doesn't Work for Under 18, thoughts?

I really like iPhones and the whole ecosystem but one thing I can't wrap my mind around is why cant teens use apple cash. it doesn't make sense why make a way to transfer money to people if you can even use it for logical purposes like giving your kids extra money quickly if they need it. or give them a spending limit or a way to pay back their parents. the concept is good but I feel like the execution isn't. Any thoughts?

There is likely a legal reason -- e.g. you can't get a credit card below the age of 18 in the US.

Legal reasons.  People under 18 can NOT agree to a binding TOS or sign a contract.

Apple pay is generally linked to someones credit card/debit card.  Which requires that someone over 18 sets up the account.

Because Apple Pay is just a way of using an existing credit/debit card -- you can get a credit card under 18 by piggy backing off someone else and you can get a debit card as long as you're over 16; but there is no way to get a credit card under 18 where you are the primary. Apple Pay is more akin to a credit card where you're the primary on the account.

AFAIK if you are under 18 you need a co-signer that is over 18 for a debit card.

I think it's under 21 you need a cosigner. Under 18 you can't be a primary (at least not with most credit cards).

I have had my own non-cosigned bank account with a debit card since I was 18 (in the US).

 

At 18 you are LEGALLY an adult.

Nope, I opened my own accounts when I was 18. Nobody had to sign but me.

That is up to the credit provider.  My credit union, which was locked to employees of a specific company for a long time, was willing to let me have a $500 limit CC at 18.

Again, over 18 it's possible to get a credit card. Not under 18.

Nope.  As long as you make enough money, you can get a CC at 18 in the US.

You have all the rights of an adult at 18, minus alcohol in some states.

Side note. Get a credit card co signed with your parents at like age 10 and if they never miss a payment you will have a credit score of around 800 when you turn 18 or 21
