1070 SLI or RTX ?

Salvas21

I already have an EVGA GTX 1070 FTW2 and I was thinking about buying a used one on Ebay and SLI them, but is the performance gain close to buying a RTX 2080 or 2080 TI ? Because if I can get a noticeable FPS gain with an used 1070 (which is definitely way cheaper than a 2080/2080TI) I would be happy. I'm also considering watercooling and overclocking the 2 GPU for the info and I have a 1440p display, I also wanna play most AAA games wth decent FPS and quality. Thanks for helping me !

IMO I’d say a 2080ti, since people were comparing 1 2080ti to SLI 1080ti when the 2080ti first came out, I’d say a 2080ti would be better

SLI is useless for the 10 series, wait until theres another refresh of gpu's or the 2080/2080ti's go down in price

Honestly, I'd recommend sticking with a single 1070. For me (and many others), upgrading every generation isn't worth the cost.

However, if you're set on it I'll say this - SLI, more often than ever, isn't being supported. In some games you may see %50 better performance, in a few - it could be worse.

As for water-cooling (custom loops), it's not worth it for performance. Most do it because they think it's cool or want marginal gains (Which that's totally fine), but for the real-world-usecase in playing games - it's not worth the money.

Single GPU when possible. SLI is more trouble then it's worth, plus you'll be spending a lot in watercooling when a single, more power GPU can do the job more efficiently both in power and cost.

Best case scenario (When the game supports SLI) is the SLI 1070s will perform roughly the same as a single GTX 1080ti. A RTX 2080Ti performs better than that.

You'd be looking at around $130 per waterblock. That's $260 just for the blocks. Then you also need tubing, fittings, radiators, fans, pump, reservoir... Plus whatever the GTX 1070 costs along with a SLI bridge.
It'd be cheaper to just sell your GTX 1070 and buy the RTX 2080/2080Ti.

As a previous SLI/Crossfire user single card is better for thermals and noise as well as few other issues. If the game has a SLI profile that scales well then it will be better if the profile is bad then you will have a headache on your hands.

IMO go for the faster/stronger single card while it doesn't look as "cool" the issues aren't worth it.

Don't bother with SLI.

Use the 1070 until you can sell it used and buy a 2080/2080ti or whatever comes next if you want to wait.

I would Sli as 2 weaker cards are always better than one better.

But as it gets too difficult to keep a system that can come close to keeping up, I stoped doing it.

Needing too much cpu to run a single card.

would rather buy two used 1080ti’s before buying any 2080ti. Aside from looking like trash, asides from the fe my cpu wouldn’t keep up as it would seem.

Neither options are worth building another rig.

i'd rather have a single 2060 over 1070 sli, not going back to sli ever again, unless it's 2 top cards.
