Connect a router to another?

Amir93

Hi guys, I have some strange question and i would like to ask about:

Currently have a router connected to the internet, i got my PC connection to that router via a wireless USB stick.

I want to do something strange, just want to remove that USB stick, instead, get another router then connect it to my PC via a short LAN cable, then catch signal from the other router.

I'm sorry for this strange question, but can i do something like this? if its possible, then, how to do it??

Thanks in advance.

Yes, do a Google search for a "WiFi bridge" . As long as the router supports it there shouldn't be any issue.

You can also get dedicated bridge routers.

asus routers have a 'range extender' mode.

better option: just buy a range extender.

Most new routers have this function, choose access point mode instead of router mode.

If your router firmware doesn't support wireless bridge, install Openwrt or DDWRT, its a custom rom for routers.

With these roms you can use the other router as a wireless repeater / hub.

It's called a wireless bridge. You can use a router for this BUT the router has to support it or the router has to support 3rd party firmware like DDWRT.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Just turning off DHCP on the second router and plugging the first router into one of the LAN ports will usually achieve the same.  It just can be a little more awkward as you need to set them as a static IP if you want to be able to still access the web UI.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)

The OP wants to bridge router wireless. So the OP needs a router with that capability. The OP is using this router to provide wireless to his machine. The router is located in another location.

Ooops, sorry you are right.  That's what I get for jumping around different topics too quickly, still had my head in another one.
