Cleaining, cooking, fixing things, the toilet, literally anything that sucks doing is made better with a phone, having a bigger screen without having to carry around a laptop is a huge plus.

I watch a lot of videos. Learn new things, entertainment, most of that stuff is monotonous work so it's a good time to learn new skills, watch a movie, whatever.

 

Then there's cookbooks, tutorials, all sorts of stuff that benefit with a larger screen.  I also remote control a lot of presentations with my phone a bigger screen is going to be amazing for that.

With newer leaks pointing to a much more refined device than what was shown off earlier, this actually looks like it's ready for market. Especially if it looks like this. Granted, this isn't a device for everyone...so I don't know why so many people on the forum are treating it like it's supposed to have mass market appeal. However, the Note also started this way, and look how it's turned out. Either way, it's awesome to see tech advancing like this and who knows what it'll lead to in the future.

 

I wouldn't get a foldable phone, but I can definitely see the allure.

I don't imagine it's that thick. Probably around 18mm. Which, really, isn't that thick compared to phones we had before. They've also found ways to slim down the display and other aspects, so it's possible that the phone's even slimmer. If it hits the 16mm mark, we're at the size of a phone with a case; pretty impressive.

Iphone X is 1,500$ CAD here and a 2018 Chevy Spark is 13,000$ we already hit pass 1/10th of the price.

It's not really a false need, it's a different form factor that might be advantageous to some. Sure, it might not be for you, but you can't negate it for that reason alone. It's not like this is the only phone they produce, it's just one of many. By that rationale, gaming computers fall into the exact same boat; they're a false need.

 

The iPhone is a flagship device. Compare it to a flagship car. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is $177,000.

Are you talking about when it's folded or unfolded? You shouldn't just assume a phone can be sat on. That's asinine. As I said before, treat your things with care and it's a complete nonissue.

The concepts for this don’t look “flagship”.  I don’t think people will spend their money on a folding phone.  The average guy doesn’t want a bulky folding phone bulging out of their pocket.

When it's folded. There needs to be a somewhat large curve to not break the screen. But simply leaning too hard will break the screen. Or bending over with tight pants in the front pocket. Or bumping it against a table.

Yes, they're much larger than phones. But they're not 4 times bigger than the tablet version of the Samsung device. Granted, they're not as big...but they're also way more portable.

And compared to a plus sized phone.

 

You're getting significantly greater space.

Doesn't seem to be a massive issue with the numerous laptops that have a similar design. There's ways to get around it, with more rigid structures. So no, it doesn't mean it's something that's super fragile. You think leaning too hard will break the screen, you have no proof of this, and it's likely something that was considered during the design process. I highly doubt it's that fragile.

Those use metal hinges and don't have a screen inside the curve. I'm sure they accounted for some pressure but based upon the royale phone take any overweight person and broken

For high end phones, yes they're ridiculous. And the length of warranties are terrible too.

I could see a genuine use case for this device, after thinking on it.

 

A DeX enabled device (and further maturity of DeX to allow linux apps) that when in its unfolded position may be docked to a keyboard to create the perfect all in one device for students!

 

Laptop for school, phone for... phoning.

 

Big time missed opportunity if they dont do this...

You can't compare Samsung engineering to something like Royale...that's like saying early 90's Hyundai compares to late 00's VAG...
