1080p or 1440P monitor? Pros and cons?

What are some of the pros and cons for a 1080p or 1440P monitor? Based on which needs should I choose one or the other? PC gaming? Console gaming? browsing?

1440, obv. more pixels = the better

if you want the extra screen resolution and have the GFX card to push those pixels then go for it

1080p: relatively cheap depending on panel type and refresh rate etc, somewhat easy to run for gaming however isn't great at sizes like 27inch if you are close to the monitor

1440p: looks awesome, looks great even at 27inch etc, can be quite expensive, requires pretty high end hardware to game on

1440 if you can push that many pixels.

1440p is has more pixels and looks better. It also costs more.

1080p has less and takes less power to push the same number of frames.

I kind of don't see the point of 1440p anymore... Since you can get 4k at around the same price. (Soon)  (Once 24 inch 4k hits the market i will upgrade my PA278Q)

1080p monitors are significantly cheaper than a 1440p panel. Almost 2-1.

1440p displays take a fair bit more oomph in the graphics department to run, especially at higher settings.

If you want a smaller display 1080p is pretty much your choice. There aren't many (if any?) 24" 1440p displays.

 

I wouldn't go 4k just because you can't go over 30hz.
