2070 or 2080 with 7700K for 1080P +60fps 144hz monitor

Nightsan

Hi, I just bought a new monitor Acer predator 144hz 24inch and next month i will buy a new GPU !
I would like to upgrade my 1060 for a 2070 or 2080 but is it worth to buy a 2080 ?
The MSI 2070 Gaming Z got my attention but if I want to buy a 2080 i will be able to buy the first price 2080 like the KFA2 2080 OC.
What do you recommend for gaming on a 144hz monitor with high or ultra settings at more than 60fps is the 2070 will do the job ?

Thank you for your answer and Sorry for my english !

The 2070 would be a great choice. The 2080 is pretty overkill for 1080p

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Near max setting on almost all games is gonna be the 2070, only issue would be cpu bound games. if you absolutely need the max performance without worry, then maybe check out the 2080, but its over kill for 1% more games in the region you want when the 2070 already covers 98%.

I’d go for the 2080, given how a 1080 performs and how close it is to a 2070.

But if you are only looks for 60+, the 2070 is more than capable of more than that.

2070 will be the good choice for 1080p but if you are planning to upgrade a monitor to 4k in near future then 2080 will be great choice but for 1080p 2070 will be the best

So can the 2070 do 1440p gaming @ 144fps locked with all nv panel settings to max and all game settings to Ultra ?

If not then gotta grab the 2080 RTX.   Ti is just not worth it for almost 500 bucks more.  It just has better memory interface and 3 more GB of VRAM which you may not need as most games do barely take up 4GB or 5GB at max

2070 is already a bit overkill for 1080p 60+ your totally fine with the 2070 if your plan is to save money take the 2070 and you will be perfectly fine for good time

By the way since you will have a 144hz monitor I suggest you aim for 144 fps :P

The "60" mark is for 60 hz monitor

That being said I have a 1070 with a 144hz monitor 1440p and I just use low settings in games, still look very good and I get 144 fps in most games and sometimes 100-120 and it still really smooth !

Once you reach the 144hz zone, you stop looking for ultra settings and start looking for that 144 fps ;)

Too many wrong comments here. No card is overkill it all depends on settings, monitor, cpu etc. Go to youtube check benchmarks like this

Since you are going for 144hz, even 2080 won't reach 144fps in many games. Depends on what you play, if AAA titles go for 2080, of shooters only  2070 would be an ok bet as well.

If you can afford the 2080 there's no real reason not to. I have an old 1070 in my tv PC and with say World of Warcraft at 1080p with all graphics settings max the 1070 sometimes is the bottleneck, even though the cpu generally is given it is a 7700 non-k.

No but no card can do that, including the 2080ti. I think you're really underestimating how demanding 1440p 144hz is. I bet 2x 2080ti would have troubles getting a locked 144fps at 1440p ultra settings in some games.
