New Ram not compatible. Now what?

I just bought some new ram for my laptop.

My current laptop ram is 8GB Hynix 2400 DDR4.
I bought 8GB Crucial 2400 DDR4 ram.

My computer blue screens with the new ram in.
I ram memory diagnostics on the new ram and it appears to be fine.

Is this a fluke?
If I returned the Crucial stick for another Crucial of the same kind,
will I most likely have the same issue?
Or should I try to get the exact same kind of ram?

are you trying to go for 16 gb of ram? if so then get another crucial or Hynix depending on what one you want to keep. if you are staying with 8 then I don't know.

Try your computer with the stick of RAM which came preonstalled - presumably it doesn’t blue screen, then try the computer with just the new stick of RAM in - if it still blue screens then I would suggest returning it because obviously there must be something funky going on with the compatibility.

It's probably the RAM timings. If you don't want to have to change those I'd return the Crucial memory and get more of the same Hynix memory that's already in your PC.

What laptop do you have?

Yes, trying for 16.

Best to stay with same brand as well?

Yeah. It’s best to stay with one type of memory. It’s harder to get things right with ddr4

I have an acer aspire.

I tried to go into the bios to see if I could change anything with the ram to get them to match,

but the bios is very simple and I do not see any options to change ram settings.

So if it's the ram timings, I'd probably have the exact same issue if I ordered an identical crucial stick?

it doesnt work like that (i think)

the motherboard will be setting the same speed and timings to both sticks if they are in the same channel.

Same exact stick. Or get a 16gb kit for dual channel ram. Itll be faster. But a bit more expensive. Sell the other 2 sticks, or just buy one. If you do one stick go with the crucial though. 2 sticks for dual channel, go with whatever you want.
