YouTube Will Stop Tweets for New Videos

Giiman95

Original Article: https://9to5google.com/2019/01/10/youtube-twitter-sharing-tools/

Main Points:

"After January 31st, the ability to automatically post your YouTube Activity on Twitter and Google+ will no longer be available."

"Automatic sharing to Twitter and Google+ via uploads or Creator Studio"
"You’ll also no longer see the option to automatically share your video on Google+ and Twitter via the upload flow in Creator Studio. "

Notes from Article

  • "YouTube doesn’t provide any reason for why this functionality is going away, interestingly. Unlike other recent feature removals which were taken out due to minimal usage, this one seems odd considering a huge number of creators still take advantage of the functionality."

Quote

From @LinusTech

"Auto-generated tweets perform like hot garbage compared to manually posted ones. There's no reason for this on YT's side. This is a Twitter issue, but clearly they have no intention of fixing it, so YT might as well deprecate the feature."

My Takeaway: The LTT Twitter account will be seeing a lot less activity. ?

All seriousness, with the helpful information provided by Linus, it seems logical for this feature to be retired.

nah, it wont. You can still send manual tweets on YT from the videos page. so instead of it being automated, it will be manually sent.

Yes, but it's a lot more inconvenient for creators. If you're video posts at midnight, would you be willing to send out the tweet notification?

well you have to manually set the video live anyways... so someone is physically going to be there doing it... im sure they will come up with some type of standardized tweet format for the videos too where they just have to copy/paste it.

Creators shouldn't be doing this anyway.

Auto-generated tweets perform like hot garbage compared to manually posted ones. There's no reason for this on YT's side. This is a Twitter issue, but clearly they have no intention of fixing it, so YT might as well deprecate the feature.

You can set a video to publish automatically at a certain time and date. I like the idea for the generalized format.

Huh. I suspect that it's actually a human thing where people don't like bot content as much (unless they're 5 *finger family song intensifies*) so they don't like/interact as much since it's essentially just a link

So Twitter's System buries them as something close to spam? YouTube might not like the lack of traffic the posts bring.

My only use of twitter is for auto tweeting liked video on youtube, i am really picky about licking a video knowing it will post on my twitter, so my twitter is like really handpicked video playlist, i've maybe tweeted manually like 15 times since 2010

As much as this was ineffective and not needed, youtube seems to be trying to prevent subscribers from getting notifications by nay means necessary XD

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

If you're posting a video at midnight, and it's that important to post it exactly at midnight, then yes, you would get up and post it at midnight

Next month's is the sound, and just in time for Easter bunnies we'll lose the video.

And by Christmas no more descriptions. Just titles and like button.

Linus is absolutely right, this is twitter's doing, not youtube's. Twitter has been cracking down a lot on automated tweets this past few months. Amazon and gleam both had auto-generated tweet features that were either removed or made much less automated.

Why are you making it post at midnight? Just post the video the same time you can tweet about it or wait and tweet the next morning. That scenario seems very niche.

Niche yes. I’m not defending the choice for posting at midnight, I just know creators do that.

YES! A few months ago I cleaned out my twitter from about ~250 tweets that Youtube had sent out every time I added to a playlist. It was terrible, and it was never clear to me when I agreed to have that happen.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.
