Netgear.
I had to bring back my Rt AC87U twice for overheating problems and instability, which wasnt fixable with alternative firmware.
Asus has lots of functions wich not all work. Like the fileserver stuff. But i have high demands.

I now have a Netgear Nighthawk X4S R7800 and thats very stable and fast. Havent used the file sharing stuff on it to much tho.
I kinda am done with storage connected to a router, its always pretty slow and janky.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Asus is better when it comes to efficiency and power, etc.

That specific Netgear router has a beautiful UI and special gaming settings too.

Oh sorry didnt see the UI thing, yeah Asus has a better UI for sure.
Netgears looks straight from out of 2010.

the 86u has better theoretical max speed, it supports more wifi modes (doesnt matter for modern devices as they are legacy modes), has more flash and ram, has higher qam (idk what this is) , requires less power(kinda important)

87u has more antennae (plural for antenna if im not wrong), SPI intrusion detection,DoS protection  (idk if those 2 are useful for you), dual wan (idk what this is)

all of this is based on the specifications on asus website.

check which router has ddwrt support

i would go for 86u as long as both support ddwrt, you dont need the extra antenna (helps with range)

also, this was just between those 2. i didnt look at the netgear one yet

Asus GT-AX11000, but that's impracticable, I found an ASUS AC3200 for $110 on ebay, and that's what I have , would recommend it easy.

Have you tried restarting it?
