Stock core i7-960 gpu upgrade ?

Hey im wondering if i would be better off

upgrade the whole shazam or just upgrade my gpu 

Specs:

intel core i7-960 @3,20ghz oc @3,8ghz

asus P6X58-E Pro 

8gb kingston ddr3

10t barracuda+2t Seagate+240gb seagate

256gb hyperx ssd 

 

and la piece de la resistance 

Sapphire Hd 6870 1gb 

was in crossfire but my other card died and now im really wondering should i upgrade the card for this built or just get a new pc

Should be fine with like a RX570. That's probably as high as I'd go with that CPU.

that board seems to be a x58 lga1366 board... you can get some nice xeons for that...

 

with that you can go much higher if you get a good one

OP, the 960 is a great CPU but it is definitely a big bottleneck on any modern GPU,

but an upgrade from a 6870 would be pretty nice 

What games are you playing?

you could get a huge boost in performance from cpu based titles, even the i3 7100 with 2c/4t outperforms it in multi threaded workloads, and almost doubles the single core performance so games that only use 1 or 2 threads would see a big increase.

I guess it really depends what kind of games you play

Stupid to say but yes im hooked on fortnite but i play a lot of gta 5,fallout 4 and yeah i know it a real bottleneck for modern gpu maybe looking too for gpu that came a bit later but wouldn’t bottleneck the cpu but that kinda imposible

What resolution are you on?

If you are only running 1080p a CPU upgrade would see a bigger boost
