Vega 64 or 2070

RKarim

Hi,

Newegg is having a sale on a Vega 64 for $400, or I can pick up the RTX 2070 for $510. Which should I go with?

The RTX 2070 is around 10-12% faster, considering the price difference the Vega 64 is better value. Keep in mind though that the Vega card will be hotter and it will draw more power.

I have a 750 watt PSU and energy here is 5c/kwh so that's fine. I've ordered the Vega.

Did you get the one with a good cooler? I remember having to turn the blower style fan to 90% to hover around 80C under load at 30C ambient

30 C is ~ 86 F, I don't think anyone would be trying to game in that heat! I keep my man cave about 21-23c (around 70-73 F) all year. Above about 77 F ambient I'll be sweating just sitting at the desk.

I’m in Singapore, we have a heatwave now. The apartments here are designed to keep heat out, it isn’t that bad indoors but it’s humid so wearing full ear headphones make you sweat a lot. I usually have a 2L thermal flask next to me with ice water so keep hydrated and cool.

EDIT: Usually it’s 28-30C, but now it tends to hover around 35C. It reached 38C/100F yesterday I believe

Unfortunately it's the blower style cooler.

If your ambient temps are low-ish, it should be fine at higher fan speeds. Go stress test the GPU in unigine heaven and adjust the fan speed accordingly(MSI Afterburner has an overlay for games, you can monitor temps and fan speeds while in a game)
