Cooling my Vega 64

Takmikill
 Share

I got a reference Vega 64 card. When gaming, it starts hitting 85C core and 90C HBM temperature at pretty high fan speeds and while being undervolted. Hot spot is 107C, but I don't really know what it does.

I've thought to replace the blower cooler with a Morpheus 2 or an Accelero IV, or an alternative to these.

Which would perform best, and how much should it benefit over a stock reference blower?

I can't use water cooling (neither AIO nor custom) since my case doesn't have any space for radiators. It's pretty cramped.

Also I'm not sure if it's thermal throttling, but it's unable to hit the set clocks in WattMan.

I'd go with the Accelero. I myself have an Arctic cooler and minus the god-awful sticker that was a pain in the ass to remove, it's an amazing cooler. Very quiet, looks good (again, once you remove the hideous sticker), and keeps my 370 under 80C even at full synthetic load.

i thought the accelero doesn't fit on a vega, am i wrong? i would recommend undervolting it first. it really helps on vega and might even give you more performence

I have already underclocked it to lowest stable voltage (1050mV)

So my only option would be morpheus? Or are there less known alternative brands

I'm using Alphacool kit on a ex-stock Vega 64 and so far it works nicely.

Seems so, I haven't looked into aftermarket air cooling much (I have a Heatkiller IV waterblock on my Vega FE). Morpheus is really nice though, I know a guy who put one on his 1080 Ti and gets great temps, IIRC doesn't break 50C under load or something like that.

ekwb if you want it to run really cool, but don't expect it to be cheap...

EKWB just has blocks though, he'd need a custom loop then. And the Heatkiller IV is apparently nicer, it's the one I have on my Vega FE and the quality and cooler performance is freaking amazing. My CPU temps didn't change much from the 280mm AIO I had before (Vega FE with Heatkiller IV, CH7/R7 2700X with EK moboblock since Watercool didn't have one, single slim 360mm rad), but the GPU hit an absolute max of 52C after running Prime95 small FFT and 4K Prime95 for over an hour straight.

Sounds like Morpheus 2 then. I can't fit any radiators in my case, not even 120mm, but I have space between the gpu and psu.
