The performance drop of the patches of meltdown and spectre are not acceptable

Shekjai

i am now using win10 19H1. We all know this the patches implemented in 19H1. And then, my sequential read&write speed is dropped from 10000MB/s(1809) to 6000MB/s(19H1). This is about 40% performance drop!!!!!

I have to mention that the performance hit may possibly bigger because the speed of 10000MB/S is possibly limited by my board's bug. The maximum speed should be expected to at least around 17500MB/S.

Testing environment :

CPU: Threadripper 2990wx

RAM: f4-3600c18d-16gtzrx * 2 at 3200 c16

Motherboard: MSI creation meg x399

Display card: GALAX GeForce® RTX 2080Ti SG Edition

SSD: PM981 256GB x7 RAID0

PSU: Corsair hx1200i

OS: Windows server 2019(1809)/Windows 10 pro workstation(19H1)

Also, anyone have an experience of the raid 0 at x399? What speed do you meet? 7 nvme ssd raid 0 is only hitting around 6000MB/s. It is really frustrating.

How exactly do you use this speed anyways?

and how did you manage to get 7 drives to the motherboard?

AND IF you are really on 19H1... first off it's an insider build, second it should fix the performance issues, third don't use insider builds for evaluating such things, maybe it got corrupted. during install/update to 19H1.

AND I really hope for you you are not trolling, so maybe post some evidence, the longer I think about it the more unlikely it becomes for me

I'm trying to figure out how they got 7 M.2 SSDs in a RAID0 configuration. Add-on card? Is there even one that has enough slots for that?

If it's split between multiple cards or interfaces, that's going to cause a performance hit.

3 slot on board and 4 slot on extension card.

I do know there have a potential performance hit so i expect the speed is lower that is only 17500MB/S read (single one 3000MB/S and 1500MB/S read/write) .

And the more important thing is when we can assume the real maximum speed is really 10GB/s, it is still horrible. And then, there is just changed the windows version which is the only factor I have changed casues the performance drop down 40%. Only one factor changing means that this is a fair test.

I have tested it after formatting, secure earse+ and formatting again.

I am working now, i may post the crystal disk mark here, when i go back my home(11 hour later)

here is the capture of crystal diak mark in 19H1 (18282)1356776370_.jpg.68a2de0153d917223b89bc12ff034e23.jpg

this picture is captured when i am on win10 18282.

here is the capture in windows server 2019(1809)IMG-20181231-WA0079.jpg.0d1a6cc10b757f434bee6e9e1a23d911.jpg

i have no full windows size capture. this picture is captured and sending through Garena to give my friend to see. After that, i go to win10 18305.

And then, the 19H1(18305)

is around 6000MB/s

here is the process that how i find out this result.

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=313239.0

18282->1809->18305

I don't want to explain too much.

In simply, i feel win10 18282 is buggy then i go to windows server 2019(1809) and then i find it is buggy too and then i go to 18305. The reason why i don't use 1803 is because 1803 don't support DXR(ray tracing).

When i were at 18282, i had found this issue but i didn't know this was caused by windows.

When i were at server 2019, i updated bios and the bios claimed that fixed RAID issues,  so i tested it again. I saw a huge improvement and i were thinking this was the contribution of bios.

And then, i am at 18305 now. The speed is back to 6000MB/s. I finally realized that all is because of windows, not BIOS

5/1 Updated

I jsut download and install 1809 again(dual boot)

I don't know What Is Going On.

I use another benchmark program called Anvil's Storage Utilities 1.1.0.

And they have the same result on 1809 and 18305... both

I can't realize what is happened...

I cannot get 10GB/S any more even try it on Crystal disk mark again.

Is there has some patches on new 1809?

Am i using the 1809 the same with windows server 2019 1809?
