Do I need a new cooler if I upgrade CPU?

jgn02

I am going to replace my i5 6600k soon with a i7 7700k..... And yes I would go for the i7 8700k but my mobo doesnt support it (ASUS Z170-E)

Questions:

  1. Should I upgrade my CPU cooler if i upgrade to the 7700k? I don't know what I have but it is not a stock intel for sure.

  2. Is the i7 7700k going to bottleneck my RTX 2070? currently having a little bit of issues with my i5 6600k being on 100 % on most games and my GPU chillin on 50-75.

Current Specs:

OS: Windows 10 (64 bit)

CPU: i5 6600k (3.5 GHz)

RAM: 8 GB Dual channel (2 x 4GB)

MOBO: Asus Z170-E (LGA1151)

GPU: RTX 2070

Storage: 465 GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO

PSU: 650 W

You should be fine with the 7700k but there will be a little bottleneck, I mean a 8700k will be able to push a bit more frames I believe ?

Nothing to worry about I think it's worth it to go from 6600k to 7700k with a gtx2070

CPU: Intel i7 6700K 4.5 ghz / CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 / Board: Asus Z170-A / GPU: Asus Rog Strix GTX 1070 8GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3000 mhz / SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB / PSU: Corsair RMx 850w / Case: Fractal Design Define S / Keyboard: Corsair MX Silent / Mouse: Logitech G403 / Monitor: Dell 27" TN 1ms 1440p/144hz Gsync

You have a Cryorig H7 which will be perfectly fine.
