Budget PC from used parts

 Share

Hi Everyone,

I would like to build a pc for my friend, with used parts. I copied the thread starter questions to make it easier for me and to you.

1. Budget & Location

My budget is around 125k HUF (~450 $US, I am from Hungary)

2. Aim

He wants to try out new title games, but mainly gaming with PUBG, Rainbow 6 Siege, Fortnite and other games like this. Max resolution is FHD. We would like to save things from his old pc, he has 2x8GB of DDR3, a good Bitfenix case and a Zalman 600W PSU.

The things needed to change:

- CPU

- Mobo

- VGA

- SSD (does not have yet)

I have made a list with the things I try find:

- CPU: i5-4570/4590/4650/4670/4690 (no need for K)

- Mobo: Intel 1150, chipsets: B85/H87/Z87/H97/Z97 - Asus, MSI or Gigabyte (had some problems with a lot Asrock boards)

- VGA: Nvidia 1060 6G / 970 4G

- SSD: 860 EVO 250G or similar

3. Monitors

One FHD for the games, and a TV connected for the browser

4. Peripherals

no need to purchase

5. Why are you upgrading?

His old PC is an AM3+ based one with FX-6300 and GTX950. He has low fps with low graph settings and needs a little upgrade.

Are my list good? Do you have any recommendations to these ones? Or I can freely buy them?

Thank you for your time and answers.

Nandor from Hungary

The DRAM prices are high, and he has 16G of DDR3. Finding a skylake based mobo with ddr3 is very rare, so thats why I want to stick to 4th gen Intel. Had one, and never had any problems with it. With your spec, the prices could be more expensive (+30%) and it does not fit the budget.

Grab a used dell optiplex or similar off ebay with a 4th gen core i5. Should be around 150-200$

Reuse the old PSU.

Grab an used R9 290x for about 100-120$

Keep the rest of the cash for massstorage or similar.

Had that in mind, but the case he had is better, and wanted to save it, but I know that the optiplex has lower noise (I have a 7010 for media pc). Does the motherboard of that PC fits in the case? (I dont know if it is same as mATX or not). Does the cooler have the same mounting points?

I really do recommend an i7, quad cores kinda suck. Grab a B85 or H87/97 chipset motherboard, and you'll be set. A GTX 980 ti would be pretty good to get off eBay if you snag a $175 deal or something.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k (won) - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Linux Proliant ML150 G6:

Dual Xeon X5560 - 24GB ECC DDR3 - GTX 750 TI - old Seagate 1.5TB HDD - dark mode Ubuntu (and Win7, cuz why not)

How many watts do I need? Seasonic Focus thread, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

It sadly uses an inverted formfactor
